ثَمُوْدَ

A noun may either be 1) Definite or indefinite 2) Masculine or feminine 3) Singular, dual or plural 4) Nominative, accusative or genitive

ثَمُوْدُ is the natural state of this proper noun and since it is diptote (nouns that do not accept tanwin to show their genitive state, instead they take fattah) it becomes ثَمُوْدَ due to: 1) a preposition that precedes it or 2) a possessed noun that precedes it or 3) it’s a noun of dependent declension a) نَعْتٌ / صِفَطٌ adjectives b) التَّوْكِيْدُ emphatic c) المَعْطُوْفٌ conjunction d) البَدَلُ synonym

Name of an ancient tribe which lived in the western parts of Arabia. Thamud is known after a grandson of Aram, the grandson of Noah

They lived shortly before the time of Ismail. Their Prophet was Salih. The tribe flourished more then two hundred years after ‘Ad and their territory extended from Adan in the south to Syria in the north

Verse
 
And to Thamud their brother Salih (AS) he said, “O my people, worship Allah (SWT)وَإِلَى ثَمُوْدَ أَخَاهُمْ صَالِحًا قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللهَ
not for you from a God beside Himمَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَاهٍ غَيْرُهُ
came to you a clear proof from your Lordقَدْ جَآءَتْكُمْ بَيِّنَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ
this she camel of Allah (SWT) is a sign for youهَذِهِ نَاقَةُ اللهِ لَكُمْ ءَايَةً
so leave her to eat on the earth of Allah (SWT)فَذَرُوْهَا تَأْكُلْ فِي أَرْضِ اللهِ
7-73and let not any harm touch her lest a painful punishment seizes youوَلَا تَمَسُّوْهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيْمٌ
Did not come to them the news of those from before themأَلَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ نَبَأُ الَّذِيْنَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ
the people of Nuh (AS) and Aad and Thamud and the people of Ebrahim (AS)قَوْمِ نُوْحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُوْدَ وَقَوْمِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ
and the companions of Madian and the towns overthrownوَأَصْحَابِ مَدْيَنَ وَالمُؤْتَفِكَاتِ
their messengers came to them with the clear signsأَتَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالبَيِّنَاتِ
9-70so, not was Allah (SWT) to wrong them but they used to wrong themselvesفَمَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَاكِنْ كَانُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُوْنَ
and to Thamud, their brother Salih (AS), he said, “O my people, worship Allah (SWT)وَإِلَى ثَمُوْدَ أَخَاهُم صَالِحًا قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللهَ
there is not for you a God other than Heمَا لَكُم مِّن إِلَاهٍ غَيْرُهُ
He brought you forth from the earth and He settled you thereinهُوَ أَنْشَأَكُم مِّنَ الأَرْضِ وَاسْتَعْمَرَكُم فِيهَا
so, seek His forgiveness then turn in repentance to Himفَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيهِ
11-61truly my Lord is Near, Responsiveإِنَّ رَبِّى قَرِيْبٌ مُّجِيْبٌ
as if they never lived thereكَأَن لَّم يَغْنَوا فِيهَآ
11-68truly Thamud disbelieved in their Lord, so away with Thamudأَلَآ إِنَّ ثَمُودَا كَفَرُوا رَبَّهُم أَلَا بُعْدًا لِّثَمُودَ
