إِلَّا
A word in the Arabic language will either be 1) a verb or 2) a noun or 3) a particle – إِلَّا is a particle
It is used to signify the sense of exception, if not, unless, except, some, otherwise, less, but, and, also

| 78-38 | except whom the Most-Merciful permits him and he will say what is correct | إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَانُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا |
| except those who believe and do good deeds | إِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ | |
| 84-25 | for them is a reward that will never end | لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُوْنٍ |
| except what Allah (SWT) wills | إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ اللهُ | |
| 87-7 | Indeed, He knows the apparent and what is hidden | إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَى |
| 88-6 | No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant | لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ ضَرِيْعٍ |
| 88-23 | save the one who turns away and disbelieves | إِلَّا مَنْ تَوَلَّى وَكَفَرَ |
| 92-20 | except to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High | إِلَّا ابْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَى |
| Except those who believe and do righteous deeds | إِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوْا الصَّالِحَاتِ | |
| 95-6 | for them is a reward without end | فَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُوْنٍ |
| Except those who believe and do righteous deeds | إِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوْا الصَّالِحَاتِ | |
| 103-3 | and who enjoin one another to the truth and to patience | وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ |
