فَ

A word in the Arabic language will either be 1) a verb or 2) a noun or 3) a particle – فَ is a particle

فَ is a result particle in a conditional sentence meaning then

الْفَاءُ وَاقِعَةٌ فِي جَوَابِ الشَّرْطِالحُرُوفُ القَمَرِيَّةُThen
حَرْفٌفَفَف is a labial letterWhen ف is used the مُضَارِعٌ is not مَجْزُوْمٌ
Result particleSun letterالحُرُوفُParticleRootFaIt is pronounced as the English fWe will say فِي مَحَلِّ جَزْمٍ
الْفَاءُ وَاقِعَةٌ فِي جَوَابِ الشَّرْطِthe جَوَابُ الشَّرْطِ should take a ف in the following cases if:
MeaningVerse1It is a nominal sentence
2The verb contains الطَّلَبُ /demand ( الطَّلَبُ verb is one containing الأَمْرُ , النَّهِي or الاِسْتِفْهَامُ )
Whoever deceives us is not one of us.مَا غَشَّنَا فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا3The verb is جَامِدٌ for example لَيْسَ / عَسَى (these verbs have no other form like الْأَمَرُ or الْمُضَارِعُ )
Whoever obeys Allah and His messengerوَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللهَ وَرَسُوْلَهُ4The verb is preceded by قَدْ
has indeed achieved a great success.فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيْمًا
Whatever be the circumstances I don’t lie.مَهْمَا تَكُنِ الظُّرُوْفُ فَمَا أَكْذِبُ5The verb is preceded by مَا
Whoever wears silk in this worldمَنْ لَبِسَ الْحَرِيْرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا6The verb is preceded by لَنْ
will not wear it in the hereafter.فَلَنْ يَلْبَسَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ
If you travel, I will travel.إِنْ تُسَافِرْ فَسَأُسَافِرُ7The verb is preceded by س
And if you fear poverty, Allah will enrichوَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ عَيَلَةً فَسَوْفَ يُغْنِيكُمُ 8The verb is preceded by سَوْفَ
you, if He wills, out of His bounty.اللهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ إِنْ شَآءَ
That, whoever kills a soul for other thanأَنَّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ9The verb is preceded by كَأَنَّمَا / as if
murder or corruption in the earth, it isفَسَادٍ فِي الأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ
as if he has killed all mankind.النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا
When ف is used the مُضَارِعٌ is not مَجْزُوْمٌ
We will say فِي مَحَلِّ جَزْمٍ
Surah/Below are verses in the holy Quran containing the ف
Verseresult particle in a conditional sentenceالْفَاءُ وَاقِعَةٌ فِي جَوَابِ الشَّرْطِ
and if you are in doubt concerning what We have sent down to Our slaveوَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا
then produce a surah like itفَأْتُوْا بِسُوْرَةٍ مِّنْ مِثْلِهِ
2-23and call your supporters other than Allah, if you are truthfulوَادْعُوْا شُهَدَآءَكُمْ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِيْنَ
But if you do not do it, and you will not be able to do itفَإِنْ لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوْا وَلَنْ تَفْعَلُوْا
2-24then fear the fire whose fuel is men and stones prepared for the disbelieversفَاتَّقُوْا النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَالحِجَارَةُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَافِرِيْنَ
Verily Allah is not averse to set forth a parable of a gnatإِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي أَنْ يَضْرِبَ مَثَلًا مَّا بَعُوْضَةً فَمَا
or what is more than it and as for those who believeفَمَا فَوْقَهَا فَأَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوْا
they know that it is the Truth from their Lordفَيَعْلَمُوْنَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَّبِّهِمْ
however as for those who disbelieve they say “What did Allah intend by this parable?”وَأَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا فَيَقُوْلُوْنَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللهُ بِهَاذَا مَثَلًا
by it He misleads many and by it He guides manyيُضِلُّ بِهِ كَثِيْرًا وَيَهْدِي بِهِ كَثِيْرًا
2-26and He does not mislead by it but the rebelliousوَمَا يُضِلُّ بِهِ إِلَّا الْفَاسِقِيْنَ
As for man, when his Lord tries him by honoring him and favoring himفَأَمَّا الإِنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ
89-15then he says “my Lord has honored me”فَيَقُوْلُ رَبِّى أَكْرَمَنِ
but when He tries him by straitening his provisionوَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ
89-16then he says “my Lord has humiliated me”فَيَقُوْلُ رَبِّى أَهَانَنِ
92-5so as for who gives, and he fearsفَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى
92-6and believes in the bestوَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى
92-7then We will facilitate him towards easeفَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَى
92-8and as for who withholds and considers himself sufficientوَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَى
92-9and denies the bestوَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَى
92-10then We will facilitate him towards difficultyفَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَى
94-7So, when you have finished, devote yourself for Allah (SWT’s) worshipفَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانْصَبْ
101-6Then as for him whose scales are heavyفَأَمَّا مَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِيْنُهُ
101-7Then, he will live a pleasing lifeفَهُوَ فِي عِيْشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
101-8But as for him whose scales are lightوَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِيْنُهُ
101-9Then, his abode will be Haawiyahفَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ
110-1When the help of Allah and the conquest comesإِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللهِ وَ الْفَتْحُ
110-2And you see the people entering the religion of Allah in crowdsوَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُوْنَ فِيْ دِيْنِ اللهِ أَفْوَاجًا
110-3Then glorify the praises of your Lord and seek His Forgiveness. Truly He is oft returningفَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا
