يَكُنِ
A word in the Arabic language will either be: 1) a verb or 2) a noun or 3) a particle – يَكُنِ is a verb
A verb will either be: 1) past tense or 2) present or future tense or 3) a command or request verb, also called an imperative – يَكُنِ is a present tense verb
A present or future tense verb will be in one of the following states: 1) مَرْفُوْعٌ – nominative or 2) مَنْصُوْبٌ – accusative or 3) مَجْزُوْمٌ – jussive
يَكُوْنُ is the natural state of this verb, which means it is in the state of (مَرْفُوْعٌ) and it changes to the jussive state يَكُنْ when it is preceded by a jussive particle like 1)لَامُ الأَمْرِ which is a particle of command or request for a third person or 2) حَرْفُ جَزْمٍ وَنَفْيٍ وَقَلْبٍ a past negation particle or 3) لَا النَّاهِيَةُ a prohibition particle
يَكُنْ takes a kasrah thus changing to يَكُنِ due to the definite noun following it in the sentence
To be, exist, happen, occur, take place, become, be such or so

Surah/ | Below are the 3 verses in the holy Quran, containing the jussive, imperfect verb | يَكُنِ |
Verse | ||
and those who spend their wealth to be seen by the people | وَالَّذِيْنَ يُنْفِقُوْنَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ رِئَآءَ النَّاسِ
and not they believe in Allah (SWT) and not in the last day | وَلَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاللهِ وَلَا بِاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ
4-38 | and who has Satan for him as a companion then evil is he as a companion | وَمَنْ يَكُنِ الشَّيْطَانُ لَهُ قَرِيْنًا فَسَآءَ قَرِيْنًا |
Indeed, those who believe, then disbelieve, then believe, then disbelieve | إِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا ثُمَّ ءَامَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا
4-137 | then increased in disbelief, Allah (SWT) will not forgive them and will not guide them to a way | ثُمَّ ازْدَادُوا كُفْرًا لَّمْ يَكُنِ اللهُ لِيَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ وَلَا لِيَهْدِيَهُمْ سَبِيْلًا |
Not were those who disbelieved from the people of the book | لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ
and the polytheists to be abandoned | وَالْمُشْرِكِيْنَ مُنْفَكِّيْنَ
