Chapter 18
Chapter 18 of the holy Quran with full Arabic text and English translation (Surah al kahf – سُوْرَةُ الكَهْفِ – The cave)
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Eternally Merciful
Part 15 / Chapter 18 | Verse | Chapter 18 /
All the praises and thanks belong to Allah (SWT) who sent down to His slave, the Book |
and has not made in it any crookedness | 1 | وَلَم يَجْعَل لَّهُ عِوَجًا |
2 | ||
then We awakened them that We might know which of the two parties | ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَاهُمْ لِنَعْلَمَ أَيُّ الحِزْبَيْنِ
was most precise in calculating the time they had remained | 12 | أَحْصَى لِمَا لَبِثُواْ أَمَدًا |
and be patient, yourself with those who call their Lord in the morning and evening desiring His face | واصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِيْنَ يَدْعُوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالغَدَاةِ وَالعَشِيِّ يُرِيْدُوْنَ وَجْهَهُ
and let not your eyes pass beyond (transgress) over them desiring the adornment of the life of the world | وَلَا تَعْدُ عَيْنَاكَ عَنْهُم تُرِيْدُ زِيْنَةَ الحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا
and do not obey one whom We have made heedless of Our remembrance | وَلَا تُطِعْ مَن أَغْفَلْنَا قَلْبَهُ عَن ذِكْرِنَا
and he follows his desires, and his affair has been neglected | 28 | وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ وَكَانَ أَمْرُهُ فُرُطًا |
and say, “the truth is from your Lord so, whoever wills let him believe and whoever wills let him disbelieve” | وَقُلِ الحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُم فَمَن شَآءَ فَلْيُؤْمِن وَمَن شَآءَ فَلْيَكْفُر
Verily We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire, its walls will surround them | إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّالِمِيْنَ نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِم سُرَادِقُهَا
and if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten brass which scalds the faces | وَإِن يَسْتَغِيْثُوا يُغَاثُوا بِمَآءٍ كَالمُهْلِ يَشْوِي الوُجُوهَ
wretched is the drink and evil is the resting place | 29 | بِئْسَ الشَّرَابُ وَسَآءَت مُرْتَفَقًا |
Indeed, those who believed and did righteous deeds |
indeed, We will not let go to waste the reward of the one who does good deeds | 30 | إِنَّا لَا نُضِيْعُ أَجْرَ مَن أَحْسَنَ عَمَلًا |
Those, for them are gardens of eternal bliss (eternity), rivers flow from underneath them | أُوْلَآئِكَ لَهُم جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهِمُ الأَنْهَارُ
they will be adorned therein from bracelets of gold, and they will wear green garments of fine and thick silk | يُحَلُّوْنَ فِيهَا مِن أَسَاوِرَ مِن ذَهَبٍ وَيَلْبَسُوْنَ ثِيَابًا خُضْرًا مِّن سُنْدُسٍ
and heavy brocade, reclining in it on raised couches, excellent is the reward and best is the resting place | 31 | وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَّكِئِيْنَ فِيْهَا عَلَى الأَرَآئِكِ نِعْمَ الثَّوَابُ وَحَسُنَت مُرْتَفَقًا |
and present to them the example of two men, We made for one of them two gardens of grapes | وَاضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ جَعَلْنَا لِأَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيْنِ مِن أَعْنَابٍ
and We surrounded them both with date palms and We placed between both of them crops | 32 | وَحَفَفْنَاهُمَا بِنَخْلٍ وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمَا زَرْعًا |
Each of the two gardens brought forth its produce and withheld not thereof |
and We caused a river to gush forth within them both | 33 | وَفَجَّرْنَا خِلَالَهُمَا نَهَرًا |
and was for him fruit so, he said to his companion during mutual talk “I am greater than you in wealth | وَكَانَ لَهُ ثَمَرٌ فَقَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُ أَنَاْ أَكْثَرُ مِنْكَ مَالًا
and I have more honor and power in men” | 34 | وَأَعَزُّ نَفَرًا |
and he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself, he said, “I think not that this will perish, ever” | 35 | وَدَخَلَ جَنَّتَهُ وَهُوَ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِ قَالَ مَآ أَظُنُّ أَن تَبِيْدَ هَذِهِ أَبَدًا |
“And I think not that the hour will come and indeed if I am brought back to my Lord | وَمَآ أَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَأئِمَةً وَلَئِن رُّدِدتُّ إِلَى رَبِّي
I will certainly find better than it as a return” | 36 |
His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, “do you disbelieve in the One who created you | قَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبُهُ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُ أَكَفَرْتَ بِالَّذِى خَلَقَكَ مِن تُرَابٍ
from dust then from a semen-drop then He fashioned you into a man?”
but as for me, He is Allah (SWT) my Lord and not I associate with my Lord, anyone | 38 | لَاكِنَّاْ هُوَ اللهُ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّى أَحَدًا |
and why did you not say when you entered your garden, “what Allah (SWT) wills | وَلَوْلَآ إِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَآءَ اللهُ
there is no power except with Allah (SWT), if you see me that I am lesser than you in wealth and children” | 39 | لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ إِنْ تَرَنِ أَنَاْ أَقَلَّ مِنْكَ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا |
“It may be that my Lord will give me better than your garden, and will send upon it a calamity from the sky | فَعَسَى رَبِّي أَن يُؤْتِيْنِ خَيْرًا مِّن جَنَّتِكَ وَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهَا حُسْبَانًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ
then it will become earth (mud), slippery” | 40 | فَتُصْبِحَ صَعِيْدًا زَلَقًا |
or its water will become sunken so, not you will be able to seek for it | 41 | أَوْ يُصْبِحَ مَآؤُهَا غَوْرًا فَلَن تَسْتَطِيْعَ لَهُ طَلَبًا |
and his fruit were surrounded, and he began to turn his hands over what he had spent on it | وَأُحِيْطَ بِثَمَرِهِ فَأَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى مَآ أَنْفَقَ فِيْهَا
while it collapsed on its trellises and he said, “O woe to me! had I not associated with my Lord, anyone” | 42 | وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَى عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَالَيْتَنِي لَم أُشْرِكْ بِرَبِّي أَحَدًا |
and not was for him a group to help him from other than Allah (SWT) nor could he help (save) himself | 43 | وَلَم تَكُن لَّهُ فِئَةٌ يَنْصُرُونَهُ مِن دُوْنِ اللهِ وَمَا كَانَ مُنْتَصِرًا |
There the protection is from Allah (SWT) the true, He is best in reward and best in outcome | 44 |
and present to them the example of the life of the world, it’s like the water, We send it down from the sky | وَاضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلَ الحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَآءِ
the vegetation of the earth mixes with it so it becomes dry stalks, the winds scatter it | فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهِ نَبَاتُ الأَرْضِ فَأَصْبَحَ هَشِيْمًا تَذْرُوْهُ الرِّيَاحُ
and Allah (SWT) is over everything All Able | 45 | وَكَانَ اللهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّقْتَدِرًا |
Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of the world, but the enduring good deeds are better |
near your Lord for reward and better for hope | 46 | عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ أَمَلًا |
and the day We will cause the mountains to move, and you will see the earth a level plain | وَيَوْمَ نُسَيِّرُ الجِبَالَ وَتَرَى الأَرْضَ بَارِزَةً
and We will gather them and not We will leave behind from them anyone | 47 | وَحَشَرْنَاهُم فَلَمْ نُغَادِرْ مِنْهُم أَحَدًا |
and they will be presented before your Lord in rows, “certainly, you have come to Us as We created you | وَعُرِضُوا عَلَى رَبِّكَ صَفًّا لَّقَدْ جِئْتُمُوْنَا كَمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ
the first time, Nay you claimed that not We made for you an appointment” | 48 | أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ بَلْ زَعَمْتُم أَلَّن نَّجْعَلَ لَكُم مَّوْعِدًا |
and the book will be placed, and you will see the criminals fearful of what is in it, and they will say, | وَوُضِعَ الكِتَابُ فَتَرَى المُجْرِمِيْنَ مُشْفِقِيْنَ مِمَّا فِيْهِ وَيَقُوْلُوْنَ
“O woe to us! what is for this book, not it leaves a small and not a great except has enumerated it?”
and they will find what they did presented and not will your Lord wrong (deal unjustly) anyone | 49 | وَوَجَدُوا مَا عَمِلُوا حَاضِرًا وَلَا يَظْلِمُ رَبُّكَ أَحَدًا |
and when We said to the angels, “prostrate to Adam (AS)” so they prostrated except Iblis, he was of the spirits | وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلمَلَآئِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّآ إِبْلِيْسَ كَانَ مِنَ الجِنِّ
and he rebelled against the command of his Lord, will you then take him and his offspring as protectors | فَفَسَقَ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُ أَوْلِيَآءَ
other than Me while they are to you enemies, wretched for the wrongdoers is the exchange (trade) | 50 | مِن دُوْنِى وَهُم لَكُم عَدُوٌّ بِئْسَ لِلظَّالِمِيْنَ بَدَلًا |
Not I made them witness the creation of the heavens and the earth and not the creation of themselves |
and not I am the One to take the misleaders as helpers | 51 | وَمَا كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذَ المُضِلِّيْنَ عَضُدًا |
and the day He will say, “Call My partners whom you pretended (claimed)” then they will call them | وَيَوْمَ يَقُوْلُ نَادُوا شُرَكَآءِىَ الَّذِيْنَ زَعَمْتُمْ فَدَعُوْهُم
but not they will respond to them, and We will make between them a barrier | 52 | فَلَم يَسْتَجِيْبُوا لَهُم وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّوْبِقًا |
and the criminals will see the fire, and they will be certain that are to fall in it | وَرَئَا المُجْرِمُونَ النَّارَ فَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُم مُّوَاقِعُوهَا
and not they will find from it a way of escape | 53 | وَلَم يَجِدُوا عَنْهَا مَصْرِفًا |
and indeed, We have explained in this, the Quran for mankind, of every example | وَلَقَد صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَذَا القُرْءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍ
but man is in most things, quarrelsome | 54 | وَكَانَ الإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا |
and not prevents men that they believe when the guidance came to them, and they ask forgiveness of their | وَمَا مَنَعَ النَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ الهُدَا وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّهُم
Lord except the way of the former people comes to them or the punishment comes to them | 55 | إِلَّا أَن تَأْتِيَهُم سُنَّةُ الأَوَّلِيْنَ أَو يَأْتِيَهُمُ العَذَابُ قُبُلًا |
73 | ||
then they both proceeded until they met a boy and he killed him, he said, “have you killed an innocent soul | فَانْطَلَقَا حَتَّى إِذَا لَقِيَا غُلَامًا فَقَتَلَهُ قَالَ أَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًا زَكِيَّةً
who had killed none? verily, you have committed a thing, prohibited | 74 | بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ لَّقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْئًا نُكْرًا |
Part 16 / Chapter 18 | Chapter 18 /
he said, “did I not say to you that you will certainly not have patience with me?”
109 | ||
say, “only I am a man like you, it has been revealed to me that only your God is one God | قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَاْ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَاهُكُمْ إِلَاهٌ وَاحِدٌ
so, whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness | فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا لِقَآءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا
and do not associate among His slaves anyone with his Lord | 110 | وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا |
