Alif, lam, Meem | 1 | ا ل م |
That is the book wherein there is no doubt a guidance for the God-conscious | 2 |
Those who believe in the unseen and stand up for the prayer |
and who spend from what We have provided them | 3 | وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُوْنَ |
And who believe in what has been sent down to you | وَالَّذِيْنَ يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِمَآ أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ
and what was sent down before you and about the hereafter they are certain | 4 | وَمَآ أُنْزِلَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَبِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوْقِنُوْنَ |
They are on guidance from their Lord |
and they, they are the successful ones | 5 | وَأُوْلَآئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُوْنَ |
Truly those who disbelieve |
it is the same to them whether you warn them or you warn them not | سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِم أَأَنْذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ
they will not believe | 6 | لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ |
Allah (SWT) has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing |
and on their eyes is a covering | وَعَلَى أَبْصَارِهِمْ غِشَاوَةٌ
and for them is a great punishment | 7 | وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيْمٌ |
And of mankind there are some who say: “We believe in Allah (SWT) and the last day” | وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَقُوْلُ ءَامَنَّا بِاللهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ
but they are not of the believers | 8 | وَمَا هُمْ بِمُؤْمِنِيْنَ |
They wish to deceive Allah (SWT) and those who believe |
however, they deceive not but themselves | وَمَا يَخْدَعُوْنَ إِلَّا أَنْفُسَهُمْ
but they perceive it not | 9 | وَمَا يَشْعُرُوْنَ |
In their hearts is a disease |
so, Allah (SWT) has increased their disease | فَزَادَهُمُ اللهُ مَرَضًا
and for them is a painful punishment | وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيْمٌ
because they were liars | 10 | بِمَا كَانُوْا يَكْذِبُوْنَ |
And when it is said to them, “Do not make mischief on the earth” |
they say “We are only peacemakers” | 11 | قَالُوْا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُوْنَ |
O no! they are the ones who make mischief, but they do not realize | 12 |
And when it is said to them “Believe as the people believed” |
they say, “Shall we believe as the fools believed?”
Truly they are the fools, but they do not know it | 13 | أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ السُّفَهَآءُ وَلَاكِنْ لَّا يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
And when they meet the believers, they say “We believe” |
but when they are alone with their disbelievers they say “Truly we are with you, | وَإِذَا خَلَوْا إِلَى شَيَاطِيْنِهِمْ قَالُوْا إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ
truly we were only mocking” | 14 | إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ |
Allah (SWT) mocks at them | اللهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ
and increases them in their wrongdoing to wander blindly | 15 | وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِيْ طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُوْنَ |
Those are they who purchased error at the price of guidance |
so, not profitable was their commerce | فَمَا رَبِحَتْ تِجَارَةُهُمْ
as they were not guided | 16 | وَمَا كَانُوْا مُهْتَدِيْنَ |
Their likeness is like the one who kindled a fire |
then, when it lighted all around him Allah (SWT) took away their light | فَلَمَّا أَضَآئَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ ذَهَبَ اللهُ بِنُوْرِهِمْ
and left them in darkness so they could not see | 17 | وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ لَّا يُبْصِرُوْنَ |
Deaf, dumb and blind so they return not | 18 | صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُوْنَ |
or like a rainstorm from the sky wherein is darkness, thunder and lightning | أَوْ كَصَيِّبٍ مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ فِيْهِ ظُلُمَاتٌ وَرَعْدٌ وَبَرْقٌ
They thrust their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunder in fear of death |
and Allah (SWT) ever encompasses the disbelievers | 19 | وَاللهُ مُحِيْطٌ بِالكَافِرِيْنَ |
The lightning almost snatches away their sight |
whenever it flashes for them, they walk therein | كُلَّمَا أَضَآءَ لَهُمْ مَشَوْا فِيْهِ
however, when darkness covers them, they stand still | وَإِذَا أَظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِم قَامُوْا
and if Allah (SWT) had willed He could have taken away their hearing and their sight | وَلَوْ شَآءَ اللهُ لَذَهَبَ بِسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَارِهِمْ
Certainly Allah (SWT) has power over all things | 20 |
O People, worship your Nurturer who has created you and those before you | يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوْا رَبَّكُمْ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ
so that you may become pious (God conscious) | 21 | لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقٌوْنَ |
Who has made the earth a resting place for you and the sky a canopy |
and sent down water from the sky | وَأَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَآءِ مَآءً
and brought forth therewith fruit as a provision for you | فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقًا لَّكُمْ
then do not set up rivals unto Allah (SWT) while you know (better) | 22 | فَلَا تَجْعَلُوْا لِلَّهِ أَنْدَادًا وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
and if you are in doubt, concerning what We have sent down to Our slave | وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا
then produce a surah like it | فَأْتُوْا بِسُوْرَةٍ مِّنْ مِثْلِهِ
and call your supporters other than Allah (SWT) if you are truthful | 23 | وَادْعُوْا شُهَدَآءَكُمْ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِيْنَ |
But if you do not do it, and you will not be able to do it | فَإِنْ لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوْا وَلَنْ تَفْعَلُوْا
then fear the fire whose fuel is men and stones | فَاتَّقُوْا النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَالحِجَارَةُ
prepared for the disbelievers | 24 | أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَافِرِيْنَ |
And give glad tidings to the believers and the good doers |
that for them will be gardens under which rivers flow | أَنَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ
Every time they will be provided with fruit therefrom for provision |
they will say “This is like the provision of before” | قَالُوْا هَذَا الَّذِي رُزِقْنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ
and they will be given things in resemblance | وَأُتُوْا بِهِ مُتَشَابِهًا
and for them therein purified spouses and they will abide therein forever | 25 | وَلَهُمْ فِيْهَا أَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَهُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُوْنَ |
Verily Allah SWT is not averse to set forth a parable of a gnat or what is above it | إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي أَنْ يَضْرِبَ مَثَلًا مَّا بَعُوْضَةً فَمَا فَوْقَهَا
and as for those who believe they know that it is the Truth from their Lord | فَأَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوْا فَيَعْلَمُوْنَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَّبِّهِمْ
and as for those who disbelieve they say, “What did Allah (SWT) intend by this parable?”
By it He misleads many and by it He guides many and He does not mislead by it but the rebellious | 26 |
Those who break Allah SWT’s covenant after ratifying it | الَّذِيْنَ يَنْقُضُوْنَ عَهْدَ اللهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مِيْثَاقِهِ
and sever what Allah (SWT) has ordered with it to be joined (reached) | وَيَقْطَعُوْنَ مَآ أَمَرَ اللهُ بِهِ أَنْ يُوْصَلَ
and cause mischief on the earth, those they are the losers | 27 | وَيُفْسِدُوْنَ فِي الأَرْضِ أُوْلَآئِكَ هُمُ الخَاسِرُوْنَ |
How can you disbelieve in Allah (SWT)? seeing that you were dead, and He brought you to life | كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُوْنَ بِاللهِ وَكُنْتُمْ أَمْوَاتًا فَأَحْيَاكُمْ
then He will cause you to die, then again, He will bring you to life, then unto Him you will return | 28 | ثُمَّ يُمِيْتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيْكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ |
He it is Who created for you all that is on earth |
then He established the heaven and proportioned them into seven heavens | ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى إِلَى السَّمَآءِ فَسَوَّاهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَوَاتٍ
He is All Knowing over everything | 29 |
And when your Lord said to the angels “Verily I am going to place a vicegerent on earth,” |
they said “will you place in it one who will make mischief therein and shed blood? | قَالُوْا أَتَجْعَلُ فِيْهَا مَنْ يُفْسِدُ فِيْهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الْدِّمَآءَ
while we glorify You with praises and sanctify You” | وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ
He said “Truly I know that which you do not know” | 30 | قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
And He taught Adam (AS) all the names then He showed them to the angels and said | وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ الأَسْمَآءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى المَلَآئِكَةِ فَقَالَ
“Tell me the names of these if you are truthful” | 31 |
They said “Glory be to You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us | قَالُوْا سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَآ إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَآ
Truly You, You are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise” | 32 |
He said “O Adam! Inform them of their names” and when he had informed them of their names, He said | قَالَ يَآ ءَادَمُ أَنْبِئْهُمْ بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ فَلَمَّآ أَنْبَأَهُمْ بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ قَالَ
“Did I not tell you that indeed I know the unseen in the heavens and the earth | أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ
and I know what you reveal and what you conceal?”
And when We said to the angels “Prostrate yourselves before Adam” |
they prostrated except Satan | فَسَجَدُوْا إِلَّآ إِبْلِيْسَ
he refused and was proud and became of the disbelievers | 34 | أَبَى وَاسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الكَافِرِيْنَ |
And We said “O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise | وَقُلْنَا يَآ ءَادَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنْتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الجَنَّةَ
and eat both of you freely with pleasure therein as you will | وَكُلَا مِنْهَا رَغَدًا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا
but come not near this tree or you both will be of the wrong-doers | 35 | وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَاذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُوْنَا مِنَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ |
Then Satan caused them to slip from it | فَأَزَلَّهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ عَنْهَا
so, they were removed from what they were in | فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيْهِ
and We said “Descend you all, some of you enemy to others | وَقُلْنَا اهْبِطُوْا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ
and Earth will be a dwelling place and a provision for a time” | 36 | وَلَكُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَى حِيْنٍ |
Then Adam received from his Lord Words and his Lord pardoned him | فَتَلَقَّى ءَادَمُ مِنْ رَّبِّهِ كَلِمَاتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ
Truly He is the Acceptor of repentance, Most Merciful | 37 |
We said “Get down all of you from it | قُلْنَا اهْبِطُوْا مِنْهَا جَمِيْعًا
then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me and who then follows My Guidance | فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِنِّي هُدًى فَمَنْ تَبِعَ هُدَايَ
there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve” | 38 | فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِم وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُوْنَ |
However, those who disbelieve and belie Our Signs |
Those are the companions of the fire They shall abide therein forever | 39 |
O Children of Israel! Remember My Favor which I bestowed upon you | يَابَنِي إِسْرَآئِيْلَ اذْكُرُوْا نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ
fulfil your covenant to Me I will fulfil My covenant to you | وَأَوْفُوْا بِعَهْدِي أُوْفِ بِعَهْدِكُمْ
and fear Me, only Me | 40 | وَإِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُوْنِ |
And believe in what I have sent down confirming that which is with you | وَءَامِنُوْا بِمَآ أَنْزَلْتُ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَكُمْ
and be not the first to disbelieve therein | وَلَا تَكُوْنُوْا أَوَّلَ كَافِرٍ بِهِ
and purchase not with my verses a small price (gain) | وَلَا تَشْتَرُوْا بِئَايَاتِي ثَمَنًا قَلِيْلً
and fear (be conscious of) Me, only Me | 41 | وَإِيَّايَ فَاتَّقُوْنِ |
And mix not truth with falsehood |
nor conceal the truth while you know | 42 | وَتَكْتُمُوْا الْحَقَّ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
And stand up for the prayer and give the obligatory tax |
and bow down along with the ones who submit | 43 | وَارْكَعُوْا مَعَ الرَّاكِعِيْنَ |
Do you enjoin piety on the people, and you forget to practice yourself? while you recite the book |
have you then no sense?
So, seek help in patience and prayer |
truly it is very difficult except for the ones who are convinced in their meeting with their Lord | 45 | وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيْرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى الْخَاشِعِيْنَ |
Those who are convinced that they will be meeting their Lord and that unto Him they will be returning | 46 |
O Children of Israel, remember My Favor which I bestowed upon you | يَا بَنِي إِسْرَآئِيْلَ اذْكُرُوْا نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ
and that I preferred you over the rest of creation | 47 | وَأَنِّي فَضَّلْتُكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِيْنَ |
And fear a day when a person shall not avail another | وَاتَّقُوْا يَوْمًا لَّا تَجْزِي نَفْسٌ عَنْ نَفْسٍ شَيْئًا
nor will intercession be accepted from him | وَلَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهَا شَفَاعَةٌ
nor will compensation be taken from him, nor will they be helped | 48 | وَلَا يُؤْخَذُ مِنْهَا عَدْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُوْنَ |
And when we delivered you from Pharaoh’s people | وَإِذْ نَجَّيْنَاكُمْ مِنْ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ
who were afflicting you with a horrible torment | يَسُوْمُوْنَكُمْ سُوْءَ الْعَذَابِ
killing your sons and sparing your women | يُذَبِّحُوْنَ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُوْنَ نِسَآءَكُمْ
and in that was a mighty trial from your lord | 49 | وَفِي ذَلِكُمْ بَلآءٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيْمٌ |
And when We separated the sea for you, and We caused you to be saved |
and We caused Pharaoh’s people to be drowned while you were looking | 50 | وَأَغْرَقْنَآ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَأَنْتُمْ تَنْظُرُوْنَ |
And when we appointed for Moses (RA) forty nights |
then you took the calf after that (for worship) so, you became wrongdoers | 51 | ثُمَّ اتَّخَذْتُمُ العِجْلَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَأَنْتُمْ ظَالِمُوْنَ |
Then We forgave you after that so that you might be grateful | 52 |
And when We gave Moses the Book and the criterion so that you may be guided | 53 |
And when Moses said to his people “O my people! Truly you have wronged yourselves | وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوْسَى لِقَوْمِهِ يَا قَوْمِ إِنَّكُمْ ظَلَمْتُمْ أَنْفُسَكُمْ
by taking the calf (for worship) so, turn to your Creator (in repentance) | بِاتِّخَاذِكُمُ العِجْلَ فَتُوْبُوْا إِلَى بَارِئِكُمْ
and kill yourselves (ego) that will be better for you with your Creator” | فَاقْتُلُوْا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ذَلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ عِنْدَ بَارِئِكُمْ
then He accepted your repentance Truly He is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful | 54 | فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيْمُ |
And when you said: “O Moses, we shall not believe you until we see Allah (SWT) plainly” |
but you were seized with a thunder bolt while you were looking | 55 | فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَأَنْتُمْ تَنْظُرُوْنَ |
Then We raised you up after your death so that you might be grateful | 56 |
And We shaded you with clouds and sent down on you sweet gum and quails |
“Eat of the good things We have provided for you” | كُلُوْا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ
and they did not wrong Us, but they wronged themselves | 57 | وَمَا ظَلَمُوْنَا وَلَكِنْ كَانُوْا أَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُوْنَ |
And when We said “Enter this town and eat from it from wherever you like in delight | وَإِذْ قُلْنَا ادْخُلُوْا هَذِهِ القَرْيَةَ فَكُلُوْا مِنْهَا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمْ رَغَدًا
and enter the gate in humility (prostration) and say “Forgive us” | وَادْخُلُوْا البَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُوْلُوْا حِطَّةٌ
We shall forgive you your sins and We will increase you in goodness | 58 |
But those who wronged changed for another the word told to them | فَبَدَّلَ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا قَوْلًا غَيْرَ الَّذِي قِيْلَ لَهُمْ
so, We sent upon those who wronged a punishment from the heaven | فَأَنْزَلْنَا عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا رِجْزًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ
due to their rebelling (disobedience) | 59 | بِمَا كَانُوْا يَفْسُقُوْنَ |
And when Moses asked for water for his people | وَإِذِ اسْتَسْقَى مُوْسَى لِقَوْمِهِ
We said “Strike the stone with your stick” |
Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs |
each people knew its own place for water | قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍ مَّشْرَبَهُمْ
“Eat and drink from the provision of Allah and do not act corruptly on the earth making mischief” | 60 |
And when you said “O Moses we cannot endure one kind of food | وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوْسَى لَنْ نَّصْبِرَ عَلَى طَعَامٍ وَاحِدٍ
so, invoke your Lord for us to bring forth for us of what the earth grows | فَادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُخْرِجْ لَنَا مِمَّا تُنْبِتُ الأَرْضُ
of its herbs, its cucumbers, its wheat/garlic, its lentils and its onions” | مِنْ بَقْلِهَا وَ قِثَّآئِهَا وَفَوْمِهَا وَعَدَسِهَا وَبَصَلِهَا
He said “Would you exchange for that which is lesser with that which is better? | قَالَ أَتَسْتَبْدِلُوْنَ الَّذِي هُوَ أَدْنَى بِالَّذِي هُوَ خَيْرٌ
Go you down to a town and you shall find what you are asking for” | اهْبِطُوْا مِصْرًا فَإِنَّ لَكُمْ مَّا سَأَلْتُمْ
And they were covered with humiliation and misery as they drew on themselves the Wrath of Allah (SWT) |
that due to their disbelieving in the signs of Allah (SWT) | ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا يَكْفُرُوْنَ بِئَايَاتِ اللهِ
and killing the Prophets without right | وَيَقْتُلُوْنَ النَّبِيِّيْنَ بِغَيْرِ الحَقِّ
that was because they disobeyed and were transgressing | 61 | ذَلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا وَّكَانُوْا يَعْتَدُوْنَ |
Truly those who believe |
and those who are Jews and Christians and Sabian’s who believe in Allah (SWT) | وَالَّذِيْنَ هَادُوْا وَالنَّصَارَى وَالصَّابِئِيْنَ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِاللهِ
and the Last Day and do righteous deeds | وَاليَوْمِ الأَخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا
for them, their reward is with their Lord and on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve | 62 | فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُوْنَ |
And when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (Sinai) |
“Take that which We have given you with conviction and remember/mention that which is therein | خُذُوْا مَآ ءَاتَيْنَاكُمْ بِقُوَّةٍ وَاذْكُرُوْا مَا فِيْهِ
so that you may become pious” | 63 | لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُوْنَ |
Then after that you turned away |
and had it not been for the Grace of Allah (SWT) upon you and His Mercy | فَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ
surely you would have been among the losers | 64 | لَكُنْتُمْ مِنَ الخَاسِرِيْنَ |
Surely you knew those from you who transgressed regarding the Sabbath |
We said to them “Be you monkeys despised and rejected” | 65 |
So, We made it an example to their own and to succeeding generations |
and a lesson for the ones who are God Conscious | 66 | وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِيْنَ |
And when Musa (AS) said to his people “Surely Allah (SWT) commands you to sacrifice a cow” |
They said “Do you take us for fools? | قَالُوْا أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُوًا
He said: “I seek refuge in Allah (SWT) that I be among the ignorant” | 67 |
They said “Call upon your Lord for us that He may make clear to us what it is” | قَالُوْا ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّنْ لَّنَا مَا هِيَ
He said “Truly He, He says it is certainly a cow not too old nor young but between that | قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُوْلُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ ا فَارِضٌ وَلَا بِكْرٌ عَوَانٌ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ
so do what you are commanded | 68 | فَافْعَلُوْا مَا تُؤْمَرُوْنَ |
They said, “Call upon your Lord for us to make clear to us its color?” |
He said “Truly He, He says it is certainly a yellow cow bright in its color, pleasing the ones who behold” | 69 | قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُوْلُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ صَفْرَآءُ فَاقِعٌ لَّوْنُهَا تَسُرُّ النَّاظِرِيْنَ |
They said “Call upon your Lord for us to make clear to us what it is? | قَالُوْا ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّنْ لَّنَا مَا هِيَ
Surely to us all cows are alike and surely if Allah wills, we will be ones who are guided | 70 |
He said Truly He says “It is certainly a cow neither trained to till the soil, | قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُوْلُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لَّا ذَلُوْلٌ تُثِيْرُ الأَرْضَ
nor water the fields, sound, having no other color” | وَلَا تَسْقِي الحَرْثَ مُسَلَّمَةٌ لَّا شِيَةَ فِيْهَا
They said “Now you have brought the truth” |
so, they sacrificed it though they almost did not do it.
And when you killed a man and fell into dispute as to the crime |
and Allah (SWT) brought forth that which you were concealing | 72 | وَاللهُ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا كُنْتُمْ تَكْتُمُوْنَ |
So, We said “Strike him with a piece of it (cow)” |
Thus, Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His signs so that you may understand | 73 |
Then, after that your hearts were hardened and became as stones or even worse in hardness |
and truly there are stones out of which indeed rivers gush forth | وَإِنَّ مِنَ الحِجَارَةِ لَمَا يَتَفَجَّرُ مِنْهُ الأَنْهَارُ
and surely of them there are which split asunder so that water flows from them | وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَشَّقَّقُ فَيَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ المَآءُ
and surely of them there are which indeed fall down for fear of Allah (SWT) | وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَهْبِطُ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللهِ
and Allah (SWT) is not unaware of what you do | 74 | وَمَا اللهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُوْنَ |
Do you covet that they will believe in your religion? |
in spite of the fact that a party among them (used to) hear the Word of Allah (SWT) | وَقَدْ كَانَ فَرِيْقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَسْمَعُوْنَ كَلَامَ اللهِ
then they change it after having understood it while they know | 75 | ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُوْنَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا عَقَلُوْهُ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
And when they meet those who believe they say: “We believe” |
and when they meet one another in private they say: | وَإِذَا خَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ قَالُوْا
“Do you tell them about what Allah (SWT) has revealed to you that they may argue with you about it with your Lord | أَتُحَدِّثُوْنَهُمْ بِمَا فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لِيُحَاجُّوْكُمْ بِهِ عِنْدَ رَبِّكُمْ
Have you then no understanding? | 76 |
Don’t they not know that Allah (SWT) knows what they conceal and what they reveal? | 77 |
And among them there are unlettered people who do not understand the book |
except they trust upon false desires and that they but guess | 78 | إِلَّآ أَمَانِيَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَظُنُّوْن |
So, woe to those who write the book with their own hands |
then they say “This is from Allah (SWT)” to purchase with it a small gain | ثُمَّ يَقُوْلُوْنَ هَذَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ لِيَشْتَرُوْا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيْلً
So, woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn | 79 |
And they say “The fire shall not touch us but for numbered days” |
Say “Have you taken a covenant from Allah (SWT) and that Allah (SWT) will not break His Covenant? | قُلْ أَتَّخَذْتُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ عَهْدًا فَلَنْ يُخْلِفَ اللهُ عَهْدَهُ
or you say of Allah (SWT) what you know not?”
Yes, whosoever earns evil, and his sin has surrounded him | بَلَى مَنْ كَسَبَ سَيِّئَةً وَأَحَاطَتْ بِهِ خَطِيْئَتُهُ
then, they are dwellers of the fire, they will dwell therein forever | 81 | فَأُوْلَآئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيْهَا خَالِدُوْنَ |
And those who believe and do righteous good deeds |
they are dwellers of Paradise they will dwell therein forever | 82 | أُوْلَآئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الجَنَّةِ هُمْ فِيْهَا خَالِدُوْنَ |
And when We took the covenant of the Children of Israel |
Worship none but Allah (SWT) and be excellent to parents |
and to kindred and to orphans and to the needy and speak excellently to the people | وَذِيْ القُرْبَى وَاليَتَامَى وَالمَسَاكِيْنِ وَقُوْلُوْا لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًا
and establish the prayer and give the obligatory tax | وَأَقِيْمُ الصَّلَاةَ وَءَاتُوْا الزَّكَاةَ
Then you turned away except a few among you and you were refusing | 83 |
And when We took your covenant |
“Shed not the blood of your people nor turn out your own people from their dwellings” |
then you acknowledged and you bore witness | 84 | ثُمَّ أَقْرَرْتُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَشْهَدُوْنَ |
Then you are those who kill one another | ثُمَّ أَنْتُمْ هَاؤُلَآءِ تَقْتُلُوْنَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ
and you expel a party of you from their homes | وَتُخْرِجُوْنَ فَرِيْقًا مِّنْكُمْ مِّنْ دِيَارِهِمْ
cooperating against them in sin and oppression | تَظَاهَرُوْنَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِالإِثْمِ وَالعُدْوَانِ
and if they come to you as captives, you ransom them | وَإِنْ يَأْتُوْكُمْ أُسَارَى تُفَادُوْهُمْ
although their eviction was forbidden to you | وَهُوَ مُحَرَّمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ إِخْرَاجُهُمْ
Do you believe in part of the book? and disbelieve in part? |
So, what is the recompense for them who do that among you except disgrace in the life of this world | فَمَا جَزَآءُ مَنْ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا خِزْيٌ فِيْ الحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا
and on the day of resurrection, they will be subjected to the harshest punishment | وَيَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ يُرَدُّوْنَ إِلَى أَشَدِّ العَذَابِ
and Allah (SWT) is not unaware of what you do | 85 | وَمَا اللهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُوْنَ |
Those are they who purchased the life of this world at the price of the hereafter |
So, their torment shall not be lightened, nor shall they be helped | 86 |
And indeed, We gave Musa the book and followed it with a succession of Messengers |
And We gave Isa, son of Mary clear signs and supported him with the Pure Spirit |
Is it that whenever there came to you a messenger with what you yourselves desired not you grew arrogant? |
So, some you denied and some you killed. | 87 |
And they say “Our hearts are wrapped” |
Nay Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so little is that which they believe. | 88 |
And when a Book came to them from Allah (SWT) confirming what is with them | وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ كِتَابٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ
and before they used to pray for victory over the disbelievers | وَكَانُوْا مِنْ قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُوْنَ عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا
so, when came to them what they recognized, they disbelieved in it | فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ مَّا عَرَفُوْا كَفَرُوْا بِهِ
so, the Curse of Allah (SWT) be on the disbelievers | 89 | فَلَعْنَةُ اللهِ عَلَى الكَافِرِيْنَ |
Miserable is the price they have sold their souls for | بِئْسَمَا اشْتَرَوْا بِهِ أَنْفُسَهُمْ
that they disbelieve in what Allah (SWT) sent down | أَنْ يَكْفُرُوْا بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ
grudging Allah (SWT) for granting His Grace to whomsoever He Wills of His servants | بَغْيًا أَنْ يُنَزِّلَ اللهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ عَلَى مَنْ يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ
so, they have drawn (earned) wrath upon wrath and for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment | 90 | فَبَآءُو بِغَضَبٍ عَلَى غَضَبٍ وَلِلْكَافِرِيْنَ عَذَابٌ مُّهِيْنٌ |
And when it is said to them “Believe in what Allah (SWT) has sent down” | وَإِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمْ ءَامِنُوْا بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ
they say, “We believe in what was sent down to us” and they disbelieve in what is beside it | قَالُوْا نُؤْمِنُ بِمَآ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْنَا وَيَكْفُرُوْنَ بِمَا وَرَآءَهُ
though it is the truth confirming that which is with them | وَهُوَ الحَقُّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ
Say “Why then have you killed the prophets of Allah (SWT) aforetime” |
if you are (indeed) believers?
And indeed, Musa came to you with clear signs |
then you took the calf after him (for worship) so you were wrongdoers | 92 | ثُمَّ اتَّخَذْتُمُ العِجْلَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَأَنْتُمْ ظَالِمُوْنَ |
And when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount |
“Take what We have given you with firmness and listen” |
They said “We heard, and we disobeyed” |
and their hearts inclined to the calf due to their disbelieve | وَأُشْرِبُوْا فِي قُلُوْبِهِمُ العِجْلَ بِكُفْرِهِمْ
Say “Evil is that which your faith enjoins upon you if you should actually be believers | 93 | قُلْ بِئْسَمَا يَأْمُرُكُمْ بِهِ إِيْمَانُكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ |
Say “If the home of the Hereafter with Allah (SWT) be for you exclusively | قُلْ إِنْ كَانَتْ لَكُمُ الدَّارُ الآخِرَةُ عِنْدَ اللهِ خَالِصَةً
out of all mankind then wish for death if you are truthful” | 94 | مِّنْ دُوْنِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا المَوْتَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِيْنَ |
But they will never long for it because of what their hands have sent forth |
and Allah is Al-Aware of the wrong-doers | 95 | وَاللهُ عَلِيْمٌ بِالظَّالِمِيْنَ |
And surely you will find them the greediest of mankind for life greedier than the polytheists |
Each one of them loves if he could be granted a life of a thousand years | يَوَدُّ أَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
but it will not remove him from the punishment, the grant of such a life | وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَهْزِحِهِ مِنَ العَذَابِ أَنْ يُعَمَّرَ
and Allah (SWT) is All-Seeing of what they do | 96 | وَاللهُ بَصِيْرٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ |
Say “Whoever is an enemy to Jibrael (AS) surely, he has brought it down to your heart | قُلْ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّجِبْرِيْلَ فَإِنَّهُ نَزَّلَهُ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ
by Allah (SWT’s) permission confirming what came before it | بِإِذْنِ اللهِ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ
and as guidance and glad tidings for the believers | 97 | وَهُدًى وَبُشْرَى لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ |
Whoever is an enemy to Allah (SWT) and His Angels and His Messengers and Jibrael (AS) and Mikael (AS) | مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِلَّهِ وَمَلَآئِكَتِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَجِبْرِيْلَ وَمِيْكَالَ
then truly Allah (SWT) is an enemy to the disbelievers | 98 | فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَدُوٌّ لِلْكَافِرِيْنَ |
And surely, We have sent down to you clear verses |
and none disbelieve in them but the defiantly disobedient | 99 | وَمَا يَكْفُرُ بِهَآ إِلَّا الفَاسِقُوْنَ |
Is it not that every time they made a promise? a group of them threw it aside |
Nay most of them do not believe | 100 |
And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah (SWT) confirming what was with them | وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ رَسُوْلٌ مِّنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ
a party of those who were given the Book threw away the book of Allah (SWT) | نَبَذَ فَرِيْقٌ مِّنَ الَّذِيْنَ أُوْتُوْا الكِتَابَ كِتَابَ اللهِ
behind their backs as if they did not know | 101 | وَرَآءَ ظُهُوْرِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
they followed what the devils promoted during the reign of Solomon | وَاتَّبَعُوْا مَا تَتْلُوْا الشَّيَاطِيْنُ عَلَى مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَانَ
Solomon did not disbelieve but the devils disbelieved |
teaching men magic and what came down to the two Angels at Babylon | يُعَلِّمُوْنَ النَّاسَ السِّحْرَ وَمَآ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى المَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ
Harut and Marut, they however, did not teach anyone till they said, | هَارُوْتَ وَمَارُوْتَ وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ حَتَّى يَقُوْلَ
“We are only a test so do not disbelieve” |
and from these two they learn to cause separation with it, between man and his wife | فَيَتَعَلَّمُوْنَ مِنْهُمَا مَا يُفَرِّقُوْنَ بِهِ بَيْنَ المَرْءِ وَزَوْجِهِ
but they do not harm anyone with it except by the permission of Allah (SWT) | وَمَا هُمْ بِضَآرِّيْنَ بِهِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللهِ
and they learn what harms them, not what benefits them | وَيَتَعَلَّمُوْنَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنْفَعُهُمْ
and surely, they knew that the purchasers of it would have no share in the hereafter | وَلَقَدْ عَلِمُوْا لَمَنِ اشْتَرَاهُ مَا لَهُ فِي الأَخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَاقٍ
and wretched is that, for which they sold themselves, if only they knew | 102 | وَلَبِئْسَ مَا شَرَوْا بِهِ أَنْفُسَهُمْ لَوْ كَانُوْا يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
And had they believed and been mindful (of Allah SWT) |
better would have been their reward with Allah (SWT) if only they knew | 103 | لَمَثُوْبَةٌ مِّنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ خَيْرٌ لَّوْ كَانُوْا يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
O you who believe say not “listen to us” | يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوْا لَا تَقٌوْلُوْا رَاعِنَا
rather say “make us understand” and listen and for the disbelievers there is a painful torment | 104 | وَقُوْلُوْا انْظُرْنَا وَاسْمَعُوْا وَلِلْكَافِرِيْنَ عَذَابٌ أَلِيْمٌ |
Neither those who disbelieve from the people of the book, nor the polytheists wish |
that any good be sent down to you from your Lord | أَنْ يُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْ
but Allah (SWT) chooses for His Mercy who He wills | وَاللهُ يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِ مَنْ يَشَآءُ
and Allah (SWT) is the Possessor of Great Bounty | 105 | وَاللهُ ذُوْ الفَضْلِ العَظِيْمِ |
Not We abrogate of a sign or cause it to be forgotten but We bring better than it or equal to it | مَا نَنْسَخْ مِنْ ءَايَةٍ أَوْ نُنْسِهَا نَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ مِّنْهَآ أَوْ مِثْلِهَا
Know you not that Allah is over all things Powerful? | 106 |
Do you not know that to Allah (SWT) belongs the kingdom of the heavens and earth |
and that for you, besides Allah (SWT) there is no friend or helper | 107 | وَمَا لَكُمْ مِّنْ دُوْنِ اللهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَصِيْرٍ |
Or do you wish to ask your Messenger as Musa (AS) was asked before | أَمْ تُرِيْدُوْنَ أَنْ تَسْئَلُوْا رَسُوْلَكُمْ كَمَا سُئِلَ مُوْسَى مِنْ قَبْلُ
so, who changes faith for disbelieve has truly strayed from the even way | 108 | وَمَنْ يَتَبَدَّلِ الكُفْرَ بِالإِيْمَانِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَآءَ السَّبِيْلِ |
Many from the people of the book wish they could turn you back from after your faith |
to disbelieve, out of envy from themselves after the truth has been made clear to them | كُفَّارًا حَسَدًا مِّنْ عِنْدِ أَنْفُسِهِمْ مِّنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الحَقُّ
so, forgive and overlook until Allah (SWT) brings His Command | فَاعْفُوْا وَأَصْفَحُوْا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ اللهُ بِأَمْرِهِ
Certainly Allah (SWT) is over all things Powerful | 109 |
Establish the prayer and pay the obligatory tax |
and whatever you send forth for yourselves of good you will find it with Allah (SWT) | وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوْا لِأَنِفُسِكُمْ مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوْهُ عِنْدَ اللهِ
Certainly Allah (SWT) is All-Seeing of what you do | 110 | إِنَّ اللهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ |
They say “None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian” |
These are their own wishful thinking, say “Bring your proof if you be truthful” | 111 |
Nay, who submits himself to Allah (SWT) and he is a good doer, for him, his reward is with his Lord |
and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve | 112 | وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُوْنَ |
The Jews said “The Christians are on nothing” |
and the Christians said “The Jews are on nothing” | وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى لَيْسَتِ اليَهُوْدُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ
while they (both) recite the book | وَهُمْ يَتْلُوْنَ الكِتَابَ
likewise, those who do not know say similar to their sayings | كَذَلِكَ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِمْ
Allah (SWT) will judge between them on the day of Judgement about that wherein they differ | 113 |
And who are more unjust than who prevent His name being mentioned in the Mosques of Allah (SWT) |
and strive for their ruin | وَسَعَى فِي خَرَابِهَا
It is not for those to enter them but in fear |
For them is disgrace in this world and a great torment in the hereafter | 114 |
And to Allah (SWT) belongs the east and the west so wherever you turn there is the face of Allah |
Truly Allah is All-Encompassing All-Knowing | 115 |
And they say “Allah (SWT) has begotten a son.” Glory be to Him!
Nay to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth and all surrender to Him in obedience | 116 |
The Originator of the heavens and the earth |
When He decrees a matter, He only says to it “Be” and it is | 117 | وَإِذَا قَضَى أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُوْلُ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُوْنُ |
And those who have no knowledge say “Why does Allah (SWT) not speak to us | وَقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ لَوْ لَا يُكَلِّمُنَا اللهُ
or come to us a sign like that?”
Those of before said similar sayings, their hearts are alike |
We have indeed made clear the signs for people with conviction | 118 |
Verily We have sent you with the truth a bringer of glad tidings and a warner |
and you will not be asked about the companions of the blazing fire | 119 | وَلَا تُسْئَلُ عَنْ أَصْحَابِ الجَحِيْمِ |
Never will the Jews be pleased with you nor the Christians till you follow their religion |
Say the guidance of Allah (SWT), it is the guidance |
and if you follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge | وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ بَعْدَ الَّذِي جَآءَكَ مِنَ العِلْمِ
there will be no friend or helper for you against Allah (SWT) | 120 | مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَصِيْرٍ |
Those to whom We gave the book recite it as it should be recited |
Those, they believe in it | أُوْلَآئِكَ يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِهِ
and those who disbelieve in it, they are the losers | 121 | وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِهِ فَأُوْلَآئِكَ هُمُ الخَاسِرُوْنَ |
O Children of Israel, remember My Favor which I bestowed upon you | يَا بَنِي إِسْرَآئِيْلَ اذْكُرُوْا نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ
and that I preferred you over the creation | 122 | وَأَنِّي فَضَّلْتُكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِيْنَ |
And fear a day when no soul shall avail another in anything |
nor will compensation be accepted from it | وَلَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهَا عَدْلٌ
nor will any intercession benefit it, nor shall they be helped | 123 | وَلَا تَنْفَعُهَا شَفَاعَةٌ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُوْنَ |
When the Lord of Ebrahim (AS) tried him with words which he fulfilled |
“Verily I will make you a leader for the people” | قَالَ إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا
(Ebrahim AS) said “and from my offspring?” |
He (Allah SWT) said “My covenant does not reach the wrong-doers” | 124 |
And when We made the house a place of return and safety for the people | وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا البَيْتَ مَثَابَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَمْنًا
“Take the place of Ebrahim (AS) as a praying place” |
and We entrusted Ebrahim (AS) and Ismael (AS) to purify My House for those who circle it | وَعَهِدْنَآ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيْلَ أَنْ طَهِّرَا بَيْتِيَ لِلطَّآئِفِيْنَ
who meditate and who bow and prostrate | 125 | وَالعَاكِفِيْنَ وَالرُّكَّعِ السُّجُوْدِ |
And when Ebrahim (AS) said, “My Lord! make this city safe | وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيْمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَذَا بَلَدًا ءَامِنًا
and provide its people with fruit | وَارْزُقْ أَهْلَهُ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ
those who believe among them in Allah (SWT) and the last day” | مَنْ ءَامَنَ مِنْهُمْ بِاللهِ وَاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ
He said “And who disbelieves, I will grant him enjoyment for a while | قَالَ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَأُمَتِّعُهُ قَلِيْلًا
then I shall compel him to the torment of the Fire and worst is that destination” | 126 | ثُمَّ أَضْطَرُّهُ إِلَى عَذَابِ النَّارِ وَبِئْسَ المَصِيْرُ |
And when Ebrahim (AS) was raising the foundations of the House with Ishmael (AS) | وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيْمُ القَوَاعِدَ مِنَ البَيْتِ وَإِسْمَاعِيْلُ
“Our Lord accept from us, Truly You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower” | 127 |
“Our Lord, make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto You | رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِنَآ أُمَّةً مُسْلِمَةً لَّكَ
and show us our rites and turn to us, truly You are Oft Returning, Most Merciful” | 128 | وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَآ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيْمُ |
“Our Lord, raise from among them a Messenger who will recite to them Your verses | رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِيْهِمْ رَسُوْلًا مِنْهُمْ يَتْلُوْا عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَاتِكَ
and teach them the book and wisdom and purify them | وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الكِتَابَ وَالحِكْمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيْهِمْ
Truly You, You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise | 129 |
And who turns away from the religion of Ebrahim (AS) except who fools himself? |
Truly We chose him in this world and verily, in the hereafter he will be among the righteous | 130 |
When his Lord said to him “Submit” he said “I have submitted to the Lord of the Worlds” | 131 |
And Ebrahim (AS) enjoined it upon his sons and Yaqub (AS) | وَوَصَّى بِهَآ إِبْرَاهِيْمُ بَنِيْهِ وَيَعْقُوْبُ
“O my sons, truly Allah (SWT) has chosen for you the religion | يَا بَنِيَّ إِنَّ اللهَ اصْطَفَى لَكُمُ الدِّيْنَ
so, die not except that you are in Submission” | 132 | فَلَا تَمُوْتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُوْنَ |
Or were you witnesses when death came to Yaqub (AS) | أَمْ كُنْتُمْ شُهَدَآءَ إِذْ حَضَرَ يَعْقُوْبَ المَوْتُ
when he said to his sons: “What will you worship after me?”
They said “We shall worship your God and the God of your forefathers | قَالُوْا نَعْبُدُ إِلَاهَكَ وَإِلَاهَ ءَابَآئِكَ
Ebrahim (AS) and Ismail (AS) and Ishaq (AS) | إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيْلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ
the One God and to Him we all submit” | 133 | إِلَاهًا وَاحِدًا وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُوْنَ |
That was a nation that has passed away for them is what they earned |
and for you is what you earned, and you will not be asked of what they used to do | 134 | وَلَكُمْ مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ وَلَا تُسْئَلُوْنَ عَمَّا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ |
And they say: “Be Jews or Christians then you will be guided” |
Say “Nay the religion of Ebrahim (AS) is upright and he was not of the polytheists | 135 | قُلْ بَل مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ حَنِيْفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ المُشْرِكِيْنَ |
Say “We believe in Allah (SWT) and what was sent down to us | قُوْلُوْآ ءَامَنَّا بِاللهِ وَمَآ أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا
and what was sent down to Ebrahim (AS) and Ismail (AS) and Ishaq (AS) and Yaqub (AS) | وَمَآ أُنْزِلَ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيْلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوْبَ
and the descendants and what was given to Musa (AS) and Isa (AS) | وَالأَسْبَاطِ وَمَآ أُوْتِيَ مُوْسَى وَعِيْسَى
and what was given to the Prophets from their Lord | وَمَآ أُوْتِيَ النَّبِيُّوْنَ مِن رَبِّهِمْ
We make no distinction between any one of them and to Him we have submitted” | 136 |
So, if they believe in the like of what you believe then indeed, they are guided |
but if they turn away then they are only in dissension | وَّإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا هُمْ فِى شِقَاقٍ
so, Allah (SWT) will suffice you against them and He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing | 137 | فَسَيَكْفِيْكَهُمُ اللهُ وَهُوَ السَّمِيْعُ العَلِيْمُ |
This is the religion of Allah (SWT) and who is better than Allah (SWT) in ordaining a religion (way) | صِبْغَةَ اللهِ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللهِ صِبْغَةً
and we are one’s who worship | 138 | وَنَحْنُ لَهُ عَابِدُوْنَ |
Say “Do you argue with us regarding Allah (SWT) while He is our Lord and your Lord? | قُلْ أَتُحَآجُّوْنَنَا فِي اللهِ وَهُوَ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ
So, for us our deeds and for you your deeds and we are sincere to Him | 139 | وَلَنَآ أَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَالُكُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُخْلِصُوْنَ |
Do you say that Ebrahim (AS) and Ismail (AS) and Ishaq (AS) and Yaqub (AS) | أَمْ تَقُوْلُوْنَ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيْلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوْبَ
and the descendants were Jews or Christians?
Say “Are you more knowledgeable or is Allah (SWT) more knowledgeable?” |
who is more unjust than who conceals a testimony he has from Allah (SWT)?
and Allah (SWT) is not unaware of what you do | 140 | وَمَا اللهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُوْنَ |
That was a nation which had indeed passed on for them is what they earned |
and for you is what you earned, and you will not be asked about what they do | 141 | وَلَكُمْ مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ وَلَا تُسْئَلُوْنَ عَمَّا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ |
Part 2 / Chapter 2 | Chapter 2 /
The fools among the people will say, |
“What has turned them from their prayer direction which they used to face” |
Say “To Allah (SWT) belongs the east and the west | قُلْ لِلَّهِ المَشْرِقُ وَالمَغْرِبُ
He guides whom He wills to the Straight Path” | 142 |
And thus, We made you a just nation (middle way) so, you will be witnesses over the people | وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَاكُمْ أُمَّةً وَسَطًا لِّتَكُوْنُوْا شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ
and the Messenger will be a witness over you | وَيَكُوْنَ الرَّسُوْلُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيْدًا
and not did We make the direction of prayer which you were on | وَمَا جَعَلْنَا القِبْلَةَ الَّتِي كُنْتَ عَلَيْهَآ
except to make evident who follows the Messenger from who turns back on his heels | إِلَّا لِنَعْلَمَ مَنْ يَتَّبِعُ الرَّسُوْلَ مِمَّنْ يَنْقَلِبُ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ
and indeed, it is difficult except for who Allah (SWT) guided | وَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَكَبِيْرَةً إِلَّا عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ هَدَى اللهُ
and not will Allah (SWT) let your faith go to waste | وَمَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيُضِيْعَ إِيْمَانَكُمْ
truly Allah (SWT) is to the people Kind and Merciful | 143 | إِنَّ اللهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَءُوْفٌ رَّحِيْمٌ |
Surely, We saw you turn your (SAW) face towards the heavens |
surely, We shall turn you to a Qibla that will please you | فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَاهَا
so, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque | فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ المَسْجِدِ الحَرَامِ
so, wherever you are turn your faces towards it | وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنْتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوْهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ
and truly those who were given the book certainly know that this is the truth from their Lord | وَإِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ أُوْتُوْا الكِتَابَ لَيَعْلَمُوْنَ أَنَّهُ الحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ
and Allah (SWT) is not unaware of what they do | 144 | وَمَا اللهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
Even if you come to those who were given the book with all the signs |
they will not follow your direction nor are you going to follow their direction | مَّا تَبِعُوْا قِبْلَتَكَ وَمَآ أَنْتَ بِتَابِعٍ قِبْلَتَهُمْ
and they will not follow each other’s direction | وَمَا بَعْضُهُمْ بِتَابِعٍ قِبْلَةَ بَعْضٍ
and verily if you followed their desires after what came to you of knowledge | وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَآئَكَ مِنَ العِلْمِ
truly you will be of the wrong-doers | 145 | إِنَّكَ إِذًا لَّمِنَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ |
Those to whom We gave the Book recognize him (SAW) as they recognize their sons |
but verily a party of them conceal the truth while they know | 146 | وَإِنَّ فَرِيْقًا مِّنْهُمْ لَيَكْتُمُوْنَ الحَقَّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
The truth is from your Lord, so you be not one who doubts | 147 |
For everyone is a direction he turns towards so, race towards the good | وَلِكُلٍّ وِجْهَةٌ هُوَ مُوَلِّيْهَا فَاسْتَبِقُوْا الخَيْرَاتِ
Wherever you may be Allah (SWT) will gather you together |
Truly Allah (SWT) is over everything All-Powerful | 148 |
So, from wherever you go out turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque |
this is certainly the truth from your Lord | وَإِنَّهُ لَلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ
and Allah (SWT) is not unaware of what you do | 149 | وَمَا اللهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُوْنَ |
So, from wherever you go out turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque |
and from wheresoever you are turn your face towards it | وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنْتُمْ فَوَلُّوْا وُجُوْهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ
so that people have no argument against you except who are wrong doers among them | لِئَلَّا يَكُوْنَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَيْكُمْ حُجَّةٌ إِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا مِنْهُمْ
so, fear them not but fear Me so, I may complete My Favor on you | فَلَا تَخْشَوْهُمْ وَاخْشَوْنِي وَلِأُتِمَّ نِعْمَتِي عَلَيْكُمْ
so that you may be guided | 150 | وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُوْنَ |
As We have sent to you a Messenger from among you | كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيْكُمْ رَسُوْلًا مِّنْكُمْ
reciting to you our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and the Wisdom | يَتْلُوْا عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَاتِنَا وَيُزَكِّيْكُمْ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمْ الكِتَابَ وَالحِكْمَةَ
and teaching you that which you did not know | 151 | وَيُعَلِّمُكُمْ مَّا لَمْ تَكُوْنُوْا تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
So, remember Me, I will remember you and be grateful to Me and never be ungrateful to Me | 152 | فَاذْكُرُوْنِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوْا لِي وَلَا تَكْفُرُوْنَ |
O you who believe, Seek help through patience and prayer |
Truly Allah (SWT) is with the patient | 153 |
And do not say of those who are killed in the way of Allah (SWT), “They are dead” |
Nay, they are living but you perceive it not | 154 | بَلْ أَحْيَآءٌ وَلَاكِنْ لَّا تَشْعُرُوْنَ |
And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear and hunger |
and loss of wealth and lives and fruits | وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الأَمْوَالِ وَالأَنْفُسِ وَالثَّمَرَاتِ
so, give glad tidings to the patient | 155 | وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِيْنَ |
Who when faced with a disaster say, |
“Truly to Allah (SWT) we belong and truly to Him we shall return” | 156 |
Those, upon them are the blessings from their Lord and Mercy |
and they, they are the guided ones | 157 | وَأُوْلَآئِكَ هُمُ المُهْتَدُوْنَ |
Truly As-Safa and Al-Marwa are among the signs of Allah (SWT) |
so, who performs haj to the house or umrah there is no blame on him to walk between them | فَمَنْ حَجَّ البَيْتَ أَوِاعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا
and who voluntarily does good then truly Allah (SWT) is Appreciative, All-Knowing | 158 | وَمَنْ تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
Truly who conceals what We sent down of the clear signs and guidance |
after We made it clear for the people in the book | مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الكِتَابِ
Allah (SWT) curses them and those who curse, curse them | 159 | أُوْلَآئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ الَّاعِنُوْنَ |
Except whom repent and be righteous and openly declare |
then those I will accept repentance from them I am the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful | 160 | فَأُوْلَآئِكَ أَتُوْبُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَنَا التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيْمُ |
Truly who disbelieve and they die while they are disbelievers |
Upon them is the curse of Allah (SWT) and the angels and the people all together | 161 |
Abiding eternally therein, the punishment will not be lightened on them, and they will not be reprieved | 162 |
And your god is One God, there is no god except Him, Compassionate, Merciful | 163 |
Truly in the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of the night and the day | إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ الَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ
And the ships which sail in the sea with what benefits mankind |
And what Allah (SWT) sends down from the heavens of rain |
giving life to the earth after its death and dispersing therein of every moving creature | فَأَحْيَا بِهِ الأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَبَثَّ فِيْهَا مِنْ كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ
And the shifting of the winds and the clouds |
drifting between the heavens and the earth are indeed signs for people of understanding | 164 | المُسَخَّرِ بَيْنَ السَّمَآءِ وَالأَرْضِ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُوْنَ |
And of mankind are some who take from other than Allah (SWT) as equals |
loving them as they love Allah (SWT) but those that believe are stronger in their love for Allah (SWT) | يُحِبُّوْنَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللهِ وَالَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوْا أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِلَّهِ
And had those who wronged seen when they see the punishment |
and realize that all power belongs to Allah (SWT) and that surely Allah (SWT) is severe in punishment | 165 | أَنَّ القُوَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِيْعًا وَأَنَّ اللهَ شَدِيْدُ العَذَابِ |
When those who were followed disown those who followed, and they see the punishment |
and the relations will be cut off from them | 166 | وَتَقَطَّعَتْ بِهِمُ الأَسْبَابُ |
And those who followed will say: “If that for us is a return (to the worldly life) | وَقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ اتَّبَعُوْا لَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً
then we will disown from them like they disowned from us | فَنَتَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُمْ كَمَا تَبَرَّؤُوا مِنَّا
Thus Allah (SWT) will show them their deeds as regrets for them | كَذَلِكَ يُرِيْهِمُ اللهُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ حَسَرَاتٍ عَلَيْهِمْ
and they will not be one’s who get out of the Fire | 167 | وَمَاهُمْ بِخَارِجِيْنَ مِنَ النَّارِ |
O mankind eat from what is lawful and wholesome in the earth |
and follow not the footsteps of Satan Surely, he is to you a clear enemy | 168 | وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوْا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِيْنٌ |
He only incites you to evil and indecency |
and to say about Allah (SWT) what you do not know | 169 | وَأَنْ تَقُوْلُوْا عَلَى اللهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
When it is said to them “Follow what Allah (SWT) sent down” | وَإِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوْا مَآ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ
They say “Nay We follow what we found our fathers following” |
even though their fathers did not understand anything nor were they guided | 170 | أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُوْنَ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَهْتَدُوْنَ |
The example of those who disbelieve is like the one who shouts to what does not hear |
except calls and cries, deaf, dumb, blind so they do not understand | 171 | إِلَّا دُعَآءً وَنِدَآءً صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُوْنَ |
O you who believe! eat of the lawful things that We have provided you | يَآ أَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوْا كُلُوْا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ
and be grateful to Allah (SWT) if it is indeed Him you worship | 172 | وَاشْكُرُوْا لِلَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُوْنَ |
He has only forbidden you the dead and blood and the meat of swine |
and what has been dedicated to other than Allah (SWT) | وَمَآ أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللهِ
However, who is forced, neither desiring nor transgressing then there is no sin on him | فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ
Surely Allah (SWT) is Most Forgiving, Eternally Merciful | 173 |
Surely who conceal what Allah (SWT) sent down of the Book |
and they purchase with it a small price | وَيَشْتَرُوْنَ بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيْلً
not they consume into their bellies but fire | أُوْلَآئِكَ مَا يَأْكُلُوْنَ فِي بُطُوْنِهِمْ إِلَّا النَّارَ
Allah SWT will not speak to them on the day of Resurrection, nor purify them | وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللهُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيْهِمْ
and for them will be a painful punishment | 174 | وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيْمٌ |
those are they who purchased misguidance at the cost of guidance | أُوْلَآئِكَ الَّذِيْنَ اشْتَرَوُا الضَّلَالَةَ بِالهُدَى
and punishment at the cost of forgiveness | وَالعَذَابَ بِالمَغْفِرَةِ
How persistent are they in pursuit of the fire | 175 |
That is because Allah (SWT) sent down the Book in truth |
and surely who differed regarding the Book are in extreme dissension | 176 | وَإِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اخْتَلَفُوْا فِى الكِتَابِ لَفِي شِقَاقٍ بَعِيْدٍ |
Piety is not that you turn your faces towards east and west |
But piety is one who believes in Allah (SWT) and the Last Day and the Angels |
and the Book and the Prophets and gives his wealth in spite of his love of it | وَالكِتَابِ وَالنَّبِيِّنَ وَءَاتِي المَالَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ
to his relatives and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer | ذَوِى القُرْبَى وَاليَتَامَى وَالمَسَاكِيْنَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيْلِ
and to one’s who asks and in freeing the necks and who establish the prayer and give the tax | وَالسَّآئِلِيْنَ وَفِى الرِّقَابِ وَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ وَءَاتَى الزَّكَاةَ
and who fulfil their covenant when they make it | وَالمُوْفُوْنَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ إِذَا عَاهَدُوْا
and the ones who are patient in suffering and hardship and times of stress | وَالصَّابِرِيْنَ فِي البَأْسَآءِ وَالضَّرَّآءِ وَحِيْنَ البَأْسِ
Those are who are true and those, they are Pious | 177 |
O you who believe! prescribed for you is the legal retribution |
for murder, the free man for the free man and the slave for the slave and the female for the female | فِي القَتْلَى الْحُرُّ بِالحُرِّ وَالعَبْدُ بِالعَبْدِ وَالأُنْثَى بِالأُنْثَى
but whoever pardoned for it from his brother anything | فَمَنْ عُفِيَ لَهُ مِنْ أَخِيْهِ شَيْءٌ
then follow up with suitable payment to him with kindness | فَاتِّبَاعٌ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ وَأَدَآءُ إِلَيْهِ بِإِحْسَانٍ
That is a concession and a mercy from your Lord |
then who transgresses after that, then for him is a painful punishment | 178 | فَمَنِ اعْتَدَى بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَلَهُ عَذَابٌ أَلِيْمٌ |
And there is life for you in legal retribution (law of equality) |
O men of understanding! that you may become Pious (God-Conscious) | 179 |
It is prescribed for you, when death approaches any one of you | كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ المَوْتُ
if he leaves wealth that he makes a bequest to parents and next of kin | إِنْ تَرَكَ خَيْرًا الوَصِيَّةُ لِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالأَقْرَبِيْنَ
according to reasonable manners, a duty upon the pious (righteous) | 180 | بِالمَعْرُوْفِ حَقًّا عَلَى المُتَّقِيْنَ |
Then whoever changes the bequest after hearing it | فَمَنْ بَدَّلَهُ بَعْدَ مَا سَمِعَهُ
the sin shall be on those who make the change | فَإِنَّمَآ إِثْمُهُ عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ يُبَدِّلُوْنَهُ
Truly Allah (SWT) is All-Hearing, All-Knowing | 181 |
But he who fears from a testator some unjust act or wrongdoing |
then reconciles between them then there shall be no sin on him | فَأَصْلَحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلِيْهِ
Certainly Allah (SWT) is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful | 182 |
O you who believed! prescribed for you is fasting |
as it was prescribed upon those before you so that you may become righteous (Pious) | 183 | كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُوْنَ |
For a fixed number of days but if any of you is ill or on a journey |
the same number from other days and on those who can afford it | فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ وَعَلَى الَّذِيْنَ يُطِيْقُوْنَهُ
a ransom of feeding a needy (poor) but who volunteers to do more, then it is better for him | فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِيْنٍ فَمَنْ تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَهُوْ خَيْرٌ لَّهُ
and to fast is better for you if you only knew | 184 | وَأَنْ تَصُوْمُوْا خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
The month of Ramadan is that wherein the Quran was revealed |
a guidance for the people with clear proofs of guidance and the criterion | هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الهُدَى وَالفُرْقَانِ
so, whoever among you witnesses the month then let him fast in it | فَمَنْ شَهِدَ مِنْكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ
and whoever is ill or on a journey then an equal number from other days | وَمَنْ كَانَ مَرِيْضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
Allah (SWT) wishes for you ease and He does not wish for you any hardship |
so that you may complete the prescribed period and that you magnify Allah (SWT) | وَلِتُكْمِلُوْا العِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُوْا اللهَ
for having guided you so that you may be grateful | 185 | عَلَى مَا هَدَاكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُوْنَ |
and when My slave asks you about me then indeed I am near | وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيْبٌ
I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls me | أُجِيْبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ
so let them respond to Me and believe in Me so that they may be led aright | 186 | فَلْيَسْتَجِيْبُوْا لِى وَلْيُؤْمِنُوْا بِى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُوْنَ |
It is permitted for you on the nights of fasting to approach your wives |
They are a covering for you and you are a covering for them | هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَّكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَّهُنَّ
Allah (SWT) knows that you used to deceive yourselves so, He turned towards you and forgave you | عَلِمَ اللهُ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَخْتَانُوْنَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَفَا عَنْكُمْ
so now have relations with them and seek what Allah (SWT) has ordained for you | فَالْئَانَ بَاشِرُوْهُنَّ وَابْتَغُوْا مَا كَتَبَ اللهُ لَكُمْ
so, eat and drink until until the white thread appears distinct to you | وَكُلُوْا وَاشْرَبُوْا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ
from the black thread of dawn then complete your fast till the night | مِنَ الخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ مِنَ الفَجْرِ ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوْا الصِّيَامَ إِلَى الَّيْلِ
and do not have relations with them while you are secluded in the mosques | وَلَا تُبَاشِرُوهُنَّ وَأَنْتُمْ عَاكِفُوْنَ فِي المَسَاجِدِ
These are the limits set by Allah (SWT) so do not approach them | تِلْكَ حُدُوْدُ اللهِ فَلَا تَقْرَبُوهَا
Thus does Allah (SWT) make clear His ordinances to mankind so that they may become righteous | 187 |
and do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly | وَلَا تَأْكُلُوْا أَمْوَالَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ بِالبَاطِلِ
nor present it to the rulers (in bribery) | وَتُدْلُوْا بِهَآ إِلَى الحُكَّامِ
to consume a part of the people’s property sinfully while you know | 188 | لِتَأْكُلُوْا فَرِيْقًا مِّنْ أَمْوَالِ النَّاسِ بِالإِثْمِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
They ask you about the new moons, say these are indicators of periods for the people | يَسْئَلُوْنَكَ عَنِ الأَهِلَّةِ قُلْ هِيَ مَوَاقِيْتُ لِلنَّاسِ
and the pilgrimage and it is not piety to enter the houses from the back | وَالحَجِّ وَلَيْسَ البِرُّ بِأَنْ تَأْتُوْا البُيُوْتَ مِنْ ظُهُوْرِهَا
but piety is who is God-Conscious (mindful of Allah SWT) | وَلَاكِنَّ البِرَّ مَنِ اتَّقَى
so, enter the houses through their proper doors | وَأْتُوْا البُيُوْتَ مِنْ أَبْوَابِهَا
and be mindful of Allah (SWT) so that you may be successful | 189 | وَاتَّقٌوْا اللهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُوْنَ |
and strive in the way of Allah (SWT) against those who fight you but do not transgress (exceed the limits) | وَقَاتِلُوْا فِى سَبِيْلِ اللهِ الَّذِيْنَ يُقَاتِلُوْنَكُمْ وَلَا تَعْتَدُوْا
Truly Allah (SWT) does not love the transgressors | 190 |
Kill them wherever you find them and expel them from where they expelled you | وَاقْتُلُوْهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ وَأَخْرِجُوهُمْ مِن حَيْثُ أَخْرَجُوكُمْ
as oppression is worse than killing | وَالفِتْنَةُ أَشَدُّ مِنَ القَتْلِ
and do not fight them in the Sacred Mosque until they fight you in it | وَلَا تُقَاتِلُوهُمْ عِنْدَ المَسْجِدِ الحَرَامِ حَتَّى يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِيْهِ
then if they fight you, kill them, such is the recompense for the disbelievers | 191 | فَإِنْ قَاتَلُوكُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ كَذَلِكَ جَزَآءُ الكَافِرِيْنَ |
but if they cease then indeed Allah (SWT) is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful | 192 | فَإِنِ انْتَهَوْا فَإِنَّ اللهَ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ |
and fight them until there is no more oppression and there be the religion of Allah (SWT) | وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّى لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّيْنُ لِلَّهِ
but if they cease then let there be no hostility except against the oppressors | 193 | فَإِنِ انْتَهَوْا فَلَا عُدْوَانَ إِلَّا عَلَى الظَّالِمِيْنَ |
The sacred month is for the sacred month and for all violations there is retaliation |
so, who transgresses upon you then retaliate in a like manner | فَمَنِ اعْتَدَى عَلَيْكُمْ فَاعْتَدُوْا عَلَيْهِ بِمِثْلِ مَا اعْتَدَى عَلَيْكُمْ
and be mindful of Allah (SWT) and know that Allah (SWT) is with those who are mindful | 194 | وَاتَّقًوْا اللهَ وَاعْلَمُوْا أَنَّ اللهَ مَعَ المُتَّقِيْنَ |
and spend in the way of Allah (SWT) | وَأَنْفِقُوْا فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ
and do not throw yourselves into destruction by your own hands | وَلَا تُلْقُوْا بِأَيْدِيْكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ
and do good (attain to excellence) Truly Allah (SWT) loves the good-doers | 195 | وَأَحْسِنُوْا إِنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ المُحْسِنِيْنَ |
and perform the pilgrimage and minor pilgrimage for Allah (SWT) | وَأَتِمُّوا الحَجَّ وَالعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ
but if you are held back then what can be obtained with ease of a sacrificial animal | فَإِنْ أُحْصِرْتُمْ فَمَا اسْتَيْسَرَ مِنَ الهَدْيِ
and do not shave your heads until the sacrifice reaches its destination | وَلَا تَحْلِقُوْا رُءُوْسَكُمْ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الهَدْيُ مَحِلَّهُ
and whosoever of you is ill or has an ailment of his head | فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيْضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِّنْ رَّاسِهِ
then compensate by fasting or charity or a sacrificial offering | فَفِدْيَةٌ مِّنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ
then when you are safe then whoever performs the minor pilgrimage followed by Hajj | فَإِذَآ أَمِنْتُمْ فَمَنْ تَمَتَّعَ بِالعُمْرَةِ إِلَى الحَجَّ
then what can be obtained with ease of a sacrificial animal | فَمَا اسْتَيْسَرَ مِنَ الهَدْيِ
and who cannot find then a fast of three days during Hajj | فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ ثَلَاثَةٍ أَيَّامٍ فِى الحَجِّ
and seven days when you returned (home) that is ten (days) in all | وَسَبْعَةٍ إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ تِلْكَ عَشْرَةٌ كَامِلَةٌ
This is for him whose family is not present at the Sacred Mosque |
and be mindful of Allah (SWT) and know that Allah (SWT) is severe in punishment | 196 | وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ شَدِيْدُ العِقَابِ |
The Hajj is in well-known months so, whoever undertakes therein the hajj |
then no sexual relations nor wickedness nor quarrelling in the hajj | فَلَا رَفَثَ وَلَا فُسُوْقَ وَلَا جِدَالَ فِي الحَجِّ
and whatever you do of good Allah (SWT) knows it | وَمَا تَفْعَلُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ يَعْلَمْهُ اللهُ
and take a provision but the best provision is piety (righteousness) | وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَى
so, fear Me, O men of understanding!
There is no sin on you that you seek the bounty from your Lord |
so, when you depart from Arafat | فَإِذَآ أَفَضْتُمْ مِّنْ عَرَفَاتٍ
remember Allah (SWT) near the sacred monument (Muzdalifah) | فَاذْكُرُوا اللهَ عِنْدَ المَشْعَرِ الحَرَامِ
and remember Him as He has guided you | وَاذْكُرُوهُ كَمَا هَدَاكُمْ
seeing that you were before of those who were astray | 198 | وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ مِّنْ قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الضَّآلِّيْنَ |
Then depart from where the people depart and seek forgiveness of Allah (SWT) |
Truly Allah (SWT) is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful | 199 |
and when you have completed your sacred rites (worship) | فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمْ مَّنَاسِكَكُمْ
Remember Allah (SWT) like you remember your forefathers or with a much greater remembrance |
and from the people are some who say “Our Lord give us in this world” | فَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَقُوْلُ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا
so not will he have in the hereafter any share | 200 | وَمَا لَهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَاقٍ |
and of them there are some who say “Our Lord, give us good in this world | وَمِنْهُمْ مَّنْ يَقُوْلُ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً
and good in the hereafter and protect us from the torment of the fire” | 201 | وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ |
Those, for them will be a share of what they earned and Allah (SWT) is swift in reckoning (account) | 202 |
and remember Allah (SWT) in the numbered days and whoever hurries in two days | وَاذْكُرُوا اللهَ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَّعْدُودَاتٍ فَمَنْ تَعَجَّلَ فِي يَوْمَيْنِ
there is no sin on him and whoever stays on there is no sin on him for those of you who are mindful | فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ وَمَنْ تَأَخَّرَ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ لِمَنِ اتَّقَى
and be mindful of Allah (SWT) and know that unto Him you will be gathered | 203 | وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُوْنَ |
and from mankind is he whose speech may please you in the life of the world | وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يُعْجِبُكَ قَوْلُهُ فِي الحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا
and he calls Allah (SWT) to witness what is in his heart however, he is the most quarrelsome of the opponents | 204 | وَيُشْهِدُ اللهَ عَلَى مَا فِى قَلْبِهِ وَهُوَ أَلَدُّ الخِصَامِ |
and when he turns away he strives in the land to spread corruption | وَإِذَا تَوَلَّى سَعَى فِى الأَرْضِ لِيُفْسِدَ فِيهَا
and he destroys the crops and the cattle and Allah (SWT) loves not corruption | 205 | وَيُهْلِكَ الحَرْثَ وَالنَّسْلَ وَاللهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الفَسَادَ |
and when it is said to him, “Be Mindful of Allah (SWT)” his pride takes him to sin | وَإِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُ اتَّقِ اللهَ أَخَذَتْهُ العِزَّةُ بِالإِثْمِ
then enough for him is hell and worst indeed is that place to rest | 206 | فَحَسْبُهُ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَبِئْسَ المِهَادُ |
and of mankind is he who would sell himself seeking the pleasure of Allah (SWT) | وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْرِى نَفْسَهُ ابْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِ اللهِ
and Allah (SWT) is full of kindness to His slaves | 207 | وَاللهُ رَءُوْفٌ بِالعِبَادِ |
O you who believe! Enter into Islam completely |
and do not follow the footsteps of Satan, truly he is to you an open enemy | 208 | وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِيْنٌ |
Then if you slip after clear signs have come to you | فَإِنْ زَلَلْتُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْكُمُ البَيِّنَاتُ
then know that Allah (SWT) is All-Mighty, All-Wise | 209 | فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ |
Are they waiting expecting that Allah (SWT) comes to them | هَلْ يَنْظُرُوْنَ إِلَّآ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ اللهُ
in the shadows of the clouds along with the Angels?
(If so) Then the matter would be decreed and to Allah (SWT) all matters return (for decision) | 210 |
Ask the children of Israel how many a clear sign We gave them | سَلْ بَنِى إِسْرَآئِيْلَ كَمْ ءَاتَيْنَاهُمْ مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ بَيِّنَةٍ
and whoever changes the favor of Allah (SWT) after it came to them | وَمَنْ يُبَدِّلُ نِعْمَةَ اللهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُ
then surely Allah (SWT) is severe in punishment | 211 | فَإِنَّ اللهَ شَدِيْدُ العِقَابِ |
Beautified to those who disbelieve is the life of this world | زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا الحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا
and they ridicule those who believe | وَيَسْخَرُوْنَ مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا
Those who are mindful of Allah (SWT) will be above them on the day of Resurrection |
and Allah (SWT) provides to whom He wills without measure | 212 | وَاللهُ يَرْزُقُ مَنْ يَشّآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ |
Mankind was one community and Allah (SWT) raised up prophets |
bearing glad tidings and as warner’s and He sent down with them the Book in truth | مُبَشِّرِيْنَ وَمُنْذِرِيْنَ وَأَنْزَلَ مَعَهُمُ الكِتَابَ بِالحَقِّ
to judge between people in matters wherein they differed | لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فِيمَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ
and no one differed in it except those who were given it after clear signs came to them | وَمَا اخْتَلَفَ فِيهِ إِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ أُوتُوهُ مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ البَيِّنَاتُ
out of jealousy among themselves and Allah (SWT) guided those who believed | بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ فَهَدَى اللهُ الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا
from what they differed in it to the truth by His Permission | لِمَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ مِنَ الحَقِّ بِإِذْنِهِ
and Allah (SWT) guides whom He wishes to the straight path | 213 | وَاللهُ يَهْدِى مَنْ يشَآءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيْمٍ |
Or you think that you will enter paradise while not coming to you | أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَنْ تَدْخُلُوا الجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِكُمْ
the like of those who passed away before you?
Adversity and hardship touched them and they were shaken until |
the prophet and those who believed with him said: “When, the help of Allah (SWT)” | يَقُوْلُ الرَّسُوْلُ وَالَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا مَعَهُ مَتَى نَصْرُ اللهِ
Now surely, certainly the Help of Allah (SWT) is near | 214 |
They ask you, what they should spend? Say whatever you spend of good | يَسْئَلُوْنَكَ مَاذَا يُنْفِقُوْنَ قُلْ مَآ أَنْفَقْتُمْ مِّنْ خَيْرٍ
must be for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the one who asks | فَلِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالأَقْرَبِيْنَ وَاليَتَامَى وَالمَسَاكِيْنِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيْلِ
and whatever you do of good truly Allah (SWT) knows it well | 215 | وَمَا تَفْعَلُوْا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ اللهَ بِهِ عَلِيْمٌ |
Fighting is prescribed for you while it is hateful to you | كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ القِتَالُ وَهُوَ كُرْهٌ لَّكُمْ
but, perhaps that you dislike a thing that is good for you | وَعَسَى أَنْ تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ
and, perhaps that you love a thing that is bad for you | وَعَسَى أَنْ تُحِبُّوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَّكُمْ
and Allah (SWT) knows while you do not know | 216 | وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
They ask you about the sacred month, fighting in it | يَسْئَلُوْنَكَ عَنِ الشَّهْرِ الحَرَامِ قِتَالٍ فِيْهِ
Say: “fighting therein is great (sin) but hindering from the way of Allah (SWT) and disbelief in Him | قُلْ قِتَالٌ فِيْهِ كَبِيْرٌ وَصَدٌّ عَنْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ وَكُفْرٌ بِهِ
and the sacred mosque and driving out its people from it is greater with Allah (SWT) | وَالمَسْجِدِ الحَرَامِ وَإِخْرَاجُ أَهْلِهِ مِنْهُ أَكْبَرُ عِنْدَ اللهِ
and oppression is greater than killing” and not they will cease to fight you | وَالفِتْنَةُ أَكْبَرُ مِنَ القَتْلِ وَلَا يَزَالُوْنَ يُقَاتِلُوْنَكُمْ
until they turn you away from your religion if they are able | حَتَّى يَرُدُّوكُمْ عَنْ دِيْنِكُمْ إِنِ اسْتَطَاعُوا
and whoever turn away from among you from his religion then dies while he is a disbeliever | وَمَن يَرْتَدِدْ مِنْكُمْ عَنْ دِيْنِهِ فَيَمُتْ وَهُوَ كَافِرٌ
for those, their deeds become worthless in the world and the hereafter | فَأُوْلَآئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فِى الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ
and those are the companions of the fire, they will abide in it forever | 217 | وَأُوْلَآئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيْهَا خَالِدُوْنَ |
Indeed, those who believe and those who emigrated and strove in the way of Allah (SWT) |
those, they hope for the mercy of Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT) is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful | 218 | أُوْلَآئِكَ يَرْجُوْنَ رَحْمَتَ اللهِ وَاللهُ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ |
They ask you about intoxicants and games of chance say, “in both of them is a great sin | يَسْئَلُوْنَكَ عَنِ الخَمْرِ وَالمَيْسِرِ قُلْ فِيْهِمَآ إِثْمٌ كَبِيْرٌ
and some benefits for the people but the sin of both of them is greater than the benefit of both” | وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَإِثْمُهُمَآ أَكْبَرُ مِن نَّفْعِهِمَا
and they ask you about what they should spend say, “the surplus” | وَيَسْئَلُوْنَكَ مَاذَا يُنْفِقُوْنَ قُلِ العَفْوَ
thus Allah (SWT) makes clear to you the verses so that you may ponder (reflect) | 219 | كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللهُ لَكُمُ الآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَفَكَّرُوْنَ |
concerning the world and the hereafter and they ask you about the orphans | فِى الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ وَيَسْئَلُوْنَكَ عَنِ اليَتَامَى
say, “setting right for them is good and if you associate with them then they are your brothers | قُلْ إِصْلَاحٌ لَّهُمْ خَيْرٌ وَإِنْ تُخَالِطُوْهُمْ فَإِخْوَانُكُمْ
and Allah (SWT) knows the corrupter from the amender and if Allah (SWT) willed | وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ المُفْسِدَ مِنَ المُصْلِحِ وَلَوْ شَآءَ اللهُ
surely, He could have put you in difficulties truly, Allah (SWT) is All-Mighty, All-Wise | 220 | لَأَعْنَتَكُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ |
and do not marry polytheist women until they believe | وَلَا تَنْكِحُوا المُشْرِكَاتِ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنَّ
and a believing slave girl (maid) is better than a polytheist woman even if she impresses you | وَلَأَمَةٌ مَّؤْمِنَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّن مُّشْرِكَةٍ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ
and do not give in marriage to polytheist men until they believe, and a believing slave is better | وَلَا تُنْكِحُوا المُشْرِكِيْنَ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنُوا وَلَعَبْدٌ مُّؤْمِنٌ خَيْرٌ
than a polytheist man even if he impresses you those, they invite to the fire | مِّن مُّشْرِكٍ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكُمْ أُوْلَآئِكَ يَدْعُوْنَ إِلَى النَّارِ
and Allah (SWT) invites to Paradise and forgiveness by His permission | وَاللهُ يَدْعُوا إِلَى الجَنَّةِ وَالمَغْفِرَةِ بِإِذْنِهِ
and He makes clear his verses for the people so that you may remember (take heed) | 221 | وَيُبَيِّنُ ءَايَاتِهِ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُوْنَ |
and they ask you about the menstruation say, “it is a hurt so keep away from the women | وَيَسْئَلُوْنَكَ عَنِ المَحِيْضِ قُلْ هُوَ أَذًى فَاعْتَزِلُوا النِّسَآءَ
during the menstruation and do not approach them until they are pure then when they are purified | فِي المَحِيْضِ وَلَا تَقْرَبُوْهُنَّ حَتَّى يَطْهُرْنَ فَإِذَا تَطَهَّرْنَ
then come to them from where Allah (SWT) has ordered you” | فَأْتُوْهُنَّ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرَكُمُ اللهُ
indeed, Allah (SWT) loves the ones who turn in repentance, and He loves those who purify themselves | 222 | إِنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِيْنَ وَيُحِبُّ المُتَطَهِّرِيْنَ |
Your wives are a tilth (field) for you so, come to your tilth when you wish |
and send forth for yourselves and be conscious of Allah (SWT) and know that you will meet Him | وَقَدِّمُوا لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّكُم مُّلَاقُوْهُ
and give glad tidings to the believers | 223 | وَبَشِّرِ المُؤْمِنِيْنَ |
and do not make Allah (SWT) an excuse in your oaths that you do good and be righteous | وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا اللهَ عُرْضَةً لِّأَيْمَانِكُمْ أَنْ تَبَرُّوا وَتَتَّقُوا
and make peace between the people and Allah (SWT) is All-Hearing, All-Knowing | 224 | وَتُصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَاللهُ سَمِيْعٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
Allah (SWT) will not take you to task for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He will take you to task |
for what your hearts have earned, and Allah (SWT) is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Forbearing | 225 | بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوْبُكُمْ وَاللهُ غَفُوْرٌ حَلِيْمٌ |
For those who swear from their wives is a waiting of four months |
then if they return then truly Allah (SWT) is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful | 226 | فَإِنْ فَآءُو فَإِنَّ اللهَ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ |
and if they decide to separate (divorce) then indeed, Allah (SWT) is All-Hearing, All-Knowing | 227 | وَإِنْ عَزَمُوا الطَّلَاقَ فَإِنَّ اللهَ سَمِيْعٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
and the divorced women shall wait concerning themselves for three (menstrual) periods | وَالمُطَلَّقَاتُ يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنْفُسِهِنَّ ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُوءٍ
and not lawful for them to conceal what Allah (SWT) created in their wombs | وَلَا يَحِلُّ لَهُنَّ أَنْ يَكْتُمْنَ مَا خَلَقَ اللهُ فِى أَرْحَامِهِنَّ
if they believe in Allah (SWT) and the last day | إِنْ كُنَّ يُؤْمِنَّ بِاللهِ وَاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ
and their husbands have a better right to take them back in that if they wish reconciliation | وَبُعُوْلَتُهُنَّ أَحَقُّ بِرَدِّهِنَّ فِى ذَلِكَ إِنْ أَرَادُوا إِصْلَاحًا
and for them like those on them with kindness | وَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِنَّ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ
and for the men over them a degree and Allah (SWT) is All-Mighty, All-Wise | 228 | وَلِلرِّجَالِ عَلَيْهِنَّ دَرَجَةٌ وَاللهُ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ |
The divorce is twice then to retain in a reasonable manner or to release with kindness |
and not lawful for you that you take anything from what you gave them | وَلَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَأْخُذُوا مِمَّآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوْهُنَّ شَيْئًا
except if both fear that not they both can keep the limits of Allah (SWT) | إِلَّآ أَنْ يَخَافَآ أَلَّا يُقِيْمَا حُدُوْدَ اللهِ
and if you fear that not they both can keep the limits of Allah (SWT) then no sin on them both | فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا يُقِيْمَا حُدُوْدَ اللهِ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَا
in what she ransoms concerning it, these are the limits of Allah (SWT) so, do not transgress them | فِيْمَا اقْتَدَتْ بِهِ تِلْكَ حُدُوْدُ اللهِ فَلَا تَعْتَدُوْهَا
and who transgresses the limits of Allah (SWT) then those, they are the wrongdoers | 229 | وَمَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدُوْدَ اللهِ فَأُوْلَآئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُوْنَ |
Then if he divorces her then not lawful for him from after until she marries a spouse other than him | فَإِنْ طَلَّقَهَا فَلَا تَحِلُّ لَهُ مِن بَعْدُ حَتَّى تَنْكِحَ زَوْجًا غَيْرَهُ
then if he divorces her then no sin on them both if they return to each other | فَإِنْ طَلَّقَهَا فَلَا جُنَاحَا عَلَيْهِمَآ أَنْ يَتَرَاجَعَآ
if they believe they will be able to keep the limits of Allah (SWT) | إِنْ ظَنَّآ أَنْ يُقِيْمَا حُدُوْدَ اللهِ
and these are the signs of Allah (SWT), He makes them clear for a people who know (have knowledge) | 230 | وَتِلْكَ حُدُوْدُ اللهِ يُبَيِّنُهَا لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُوْنَ |
and when you divorce the women, and they reach their term then retain them in a fair manner | وَإِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَآءَ فَبَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوْهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوْفٍ
or release them in a fair manner and do not retain them for harm | أَوْ سَرِّحُوْهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوْفٍ وَلَا تُمْسِكُوْهُنَّ ضِرَارًا
to transgress and who does that then certainly he wronged himself | لِّتَعْتَدُوا وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ ظَلَمَ نَفْسَهُ
and do not take the verses of Allah (SWT) in jest and remember the favor of Allah (SWT) upon you | وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوا ءَايَاتِ اللهِ هُزُوًا وَاذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ
and what He revealed to you of the book and the wisdom, He instructs you with it | وَمَآ أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّنَ الكِتَابِ وَالحِكْمَةِ يَعِظُكُمْ بِهِ
and be mindful of Allah (SWT) and know that Allah (SWT) is All-Knowing of everything | 231 | وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيْمٌ |
and when you divorce the women, and they reach their term then do not hinder them | وَإِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَآءَ فَبَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَلَا تَعْضُلُوْهُنَّ
from marrying their husbands when they agree between themselves in a fair manner | أَنْ يَنْكِحْنَ أَزْوَاجَهُنَّ إِذَا تَرَاضُوا بَيْنَهُمْ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ
that whoever among you believes in Allah (SWT) and the last day is admonished with it | ذَلِكَ يُوْعَظُ بِهِ مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ
that is more virtuous for you and more purer and Allah (SWT) knows while you do not know | 232 | ذَلِكُمْ أَزْكَى لَكُمْ وَأَطْهَرُ وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
and the mothers shall suckle their children for two years complete | وَالوَالِدَاتُ يُرْضِعْنَ أَوْلَادَهُنَّ حَوْلَيْنِ كَامِلَيْنِ
for whoever wishes to complete the suckling then upon the father their provision is on him | لِمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُتِمَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ وَعَلَى المَوْلُوْدِ لَهُ رِزْقُهُنَّ
and their clothing in a fair manner, not is burdened a soul except its capacity | وَكِسْوَتُهُنَّ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ لَا تُكَلَّفُ نَفْسٌ إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
the mother is not made to suffer because of her child and not the father over it because of his child | لَا تُضَآرَّ وَالِدَةٌ بِوَلَدِهَا وَلَا مَوْلُوْدٌ لَّهُ بِوَلَدِهِ
and on the heir is like that then if they both desire weaning through mutual consent | وَعَلَى الوَارِثِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فَإِنْ أَرَادَ فِصَالًا عَنْ تَرَاضٍ
of both of them and consultation then no blame on both of them and if you want | مِّنْهُمَا وَتَشَاوُرٍ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَا وَإِنْ أَرَدْتُّمْ
ask another woman to suckle your child then there is no blame on you when you pay what | أَنْ تَسْتَرْضِعُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا سَلَّمْتُم مَّآ
you give in a fair manner and be mindful of Allah (SWT) and know that Allah (SWT) | ءَاتَيْتُمْ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ
is All-Seeing of what you do | 233 | بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ |
and those who pass away among you and leave wives behind should wait for themselves | وَالَّذِيْنَ يُتَوَفُّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُوْنَ أَزْوَاجًا يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنْفُسِهِنَّ
four months and ten then when they reach their term then no sin (blame) on you | أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا فَإِذَا بَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ
for what they do concerning themselves in a fair manner | فِيْمَا فَعَلْنَ فِي أَنْفُسِهِنَّ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ
and Allah (SWT) is All-Aware of what you do | 234 | وَاللهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ خَبِيْرٌ |
and no blame on you in what you hint with it of proposal of woman | وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِيْمَا عَرَّضْتُمْ بِهِ مِنْ خِطْبَةِ النِّسَآءِ
or you conceal it in yourselves, Allah (SWT) knows that you will mention them | أَوْ أَكْنَنْتُمْ فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ عَلِمَ اللهُ أَنَّكُمْ سَتَذْكُرُوْنَهُنَّ
but do not promise them secretly except to say a kind word | وَلَاكِن لَّا تُوَاعِدُوْهُنَّ سِرًّا إِلَّآ أَنْ تَقُوْلُوا قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوْفًا
and do not resolve the knot of marriage until the prescription reaches its term | وَلَا تَعْزِمُوا عُقْدَةَ النِّكَاحِ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الكِتَابُ أَجَلَهُ
and know that Allah (SWT) knows what is within yourselves so, beware of Him | وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ فَاحْذَرُوهُ
and know that Allah (SWT) is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Forbearing | 235 | وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ غَفُوْرٌ حَلِيْمٌ |
No blame on you if you divorce the women what not you touched them | لَّا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنْ طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَآءَ مَا لَمْ تَمَسُّوْهُنَّ
nor you specified for them a dowry and make provision for them | أَوْ تَفْرِضُوا لَهُنَّ فَرِيْضَةً وَمَتِّعُوْهُنَّ
upon the wealthy according to his means and upon the poor according to his means | عَلَى المَوْسِعِ قَدَرُهُ وَعَلَى المُقْتِرِ قَدَرُهُ
a provision in a fair manner, a duty upon the good-doers | 236 | مَتَاعًا بِالمَعْرُوْفِ حَقًّا عَلَى المُحْسِنِيْنَ |
and if you divorce them from before that you touch them | وَإِنْ طَلَّقْتُمُوْهُنَّ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَمَسُّوْهُنَّ
and indeed, you have specified for them an obligation then half of what you specified | وَقَدْ فَرَضْتُمْ لَهُنَّ فَرِيْضَةً فَنِصْفُ مَا فَرَضْتُمْ
unless that they forgo it or the one in whose hand is the knot of marriage forgoes | إِلَّآ أَنْ يَعْفُوْنَ أَوْ يَعْفُوا الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ عُقْدَةُ النِّكَاحِ
and that you forgo is closer to righteousness and dont forget the bounty among you | وَإِنْ تَعْفُوا أَقْرَبَ لِلتَّقْوَى وَلَا تَنْسَوُا الفَضْلَ بَيْنَكُمْ
indeed, Allah (SWT) is All-Seeing of what you do | 237 | إِنَّ اللهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ |
Guard the prayers and the middle prayer |
and stand up for Allah (SWT) obediently | 238 | وَقُوْمُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِيْنَ |
and if you fear then on foot or riding then when you are secure | فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ فَرِجَالًا أَوْ رُكْبَانًا فَإِذَآ أَمِنْتُمْ
then remember Allah (SWT) like what He taught you what not you were knowing | 239 | فَاذْكُرُوا اللهَ كَمَا عَلَّمَكُم مَّالَمْ تَكُوْنُوا تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
and those who die among you and leave wives, must will for their wives | وَالَّذِيْنَ يُتَوَفُّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُوْنَ أَزْوَاجًا وَصِيَّةً لِّأَزْوَاجِهِمْ
a provision for the year without driving out but if they leave | مَّتَاعًا إِلَى الحَوْلِ غَيْرَ إِخْرَاجٍ فَإِنْ خَرَجْنَ
then no blame upon you in what they did concerning themselves from a fair manner | فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِى مَا فَعَلْنَ فِى أَنْفُسِهِنَّ مِن مَّعْرُوْفٍ
and Allah (SWT) is All-Mighty, All-Wise | 240 | وَاللهُ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ |
and for the divorced woman is a provision in a fair manner, a duty upon the righteous | 241 | وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَاتِ مَتَاعٌ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ حَقًّا عَلَى المُتَّقِيْنَ |
thus Allah (SWT) makes clear for you His verses so that you may use your intellect (reason) | 242 | كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَاتِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُوْنَ |
Did you not see to those, they come forth from their homes, while they in thousands in fear of | أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِيْنَ خَرَجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ وَهُمْ أُلُوْفٌ حَذَرَ
death? then Allah (SWT) said to them, “Die” then He gave them life indeed, Allah (SWT) | المَوْتِ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ اللهُ مُوْتُوا ثُمَّ أَحْيَاهُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ
certainly, possesses bounty for mankind but most of the people are not grateful | 243 | لَذُوْ فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلَاكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُوْنَ |
and fight in the way of Allah (SWT) and know that Allah (SWT) is All-Hearing, All-Knowing | 244 | وَقَاتِلُوا فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ سَمِيْعٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
Who is the one who will lend to Allah (SWT) an excellent loan so, He multiplies it for him | مَّنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ
muliplied much and Allah (SWT) withholds and grants abundance and to Him you will be returned | 245 | أَضْعَافًا كِثِيْرَةً وَاللهُ يَقْبِضُ وَيَبْصُطُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ |
Did not you see to the chiefs from the children of Israel from after Moosa (AS) | أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى المَلَإِ مِن بَنِي إِسْرَآئِيْلَ مِن بَعْدِ مُوْسَى
when they said to a prophet of theirs, “Raise for us a king, we may fight in the way of Allah (SWT)?”
He said, “Would you perhaps, if prescribed for you fighting, that not you fight?” |
they said, “and what for us that not we fight in the way of Allah (SWT) while indeed, we have been driven from | قَالُوا وَمَا لَنَآ أَلَّا نُقَاتِلَ فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ وَقَدْ أُخْرِجْنَا مِنْ
our homes and our children?” Yet, when the fighting was prescribed upon them, they turned away | دِيَارِنَا وَأَبْنَآئِنَا فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ القِتَالُ تَوَلَّوا
except a few among them and Allah (SWT) is All-Knowing of the wrongdoers | 246 | إِلَّا قَلِيْلًا مِّنْهُمْ وَاللهُ عَلِيْمٌ بِالظَّالِمِيْنَ |
and their prophet said to them, “Indeed, Allah (SWT) certainly raised for you Talut (Saul) as king” | وَقَالَ لَهُمْ نَبِيُّهُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ بَعَثَ لَكُمْ طَالُوْتَ مَلِكًا
they said, “how the kingship be for him over us while we are more entitled to kingship than him | قَالُوا أَنَّى يَكُوْنُ لَهُ المُلْكُ عَلَيْنَا وَنَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالمُلْكِ مِنْهُ
and not he has been given abundance of wealth?” He said, “Indeed, Allah chose him over you | وَلَمْ يُؤْتَ سَعَةً مِّنَ المَالِ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ اصْطَفَاهُ عَلَيْكُمْ
and increased him abundantly in knowledge and physique | وَزَادَهُ بَسْطَةً فِي العِلْمِ وَالجِسْمِ
and Allah (SWT) gives His kingdom to whom He wills and Allah (SWT) is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing” | 247 | وَاللهُ يُؤْتِي مُلْكَهُ مَنْ يَشَآءُ وَاللهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
and their prophet said to them, “Indeed, the sign of His power is that a wooden box (ark) will come to you | وَقَالَ لَهُمْ نَبِيُّهُمْ إِنَّ ءَايَةَ مُلْكِهِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَكُمُ التَّابُوْتُ
in it is tranquility from your Lord and a remnant of what was left by the family of Moosa (AS) | فِيْهِ سَكِيْنَةٌ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ وَبَقِيَّةٌ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ ءَالُ مُوْسَى
and the family of Haroon (AS), the angels will carry it | وَءَالُ هَارُوْنَ تَحْمِلُهُ المَلَآئِكَةُ
indeed, in that is certainly a sign for you if you are believers” | 248 | إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً لَّكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ |
then when Talut set out with the forces he said, “indeed, Allah (SWT) will test you with a river | فَلَمَّا فَصَلَ طَالُوْتُ بِالجُنُوْدِ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ مُبْتَلِيْكُمْ بِنَهَرٍ
so, whoever drinks from it then he is not from me and whoever does not feed on it then indeed, he is from me | فَمَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْهُ فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي وَمَن لَّمْ يَطْعَمْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مِنِّي
except who scoups a scoup by his hand” then they drank from it except a few among them | إِلَّا مَنِ اغْتَرَفَ غُرْفَةً بِيَدِهِ فَشَرِبُوا مِنْهُ إِلَّا قَلِيْلًا مِّنْهُمْ
then when he crossed it he and those who believed with him | فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَهُ هُوَ وَالَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا مَعَهُ
they said, “no strength for us today against Talut and his troops” | قَالُوا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا اليَوْمَ بِجَالُوْتَ وَجُنُوْدِهِ
those who thought that they would meet Allah (SWT) said,”how many from a small party overcame | قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ يَظُنُّوْنَ أَنَّهُم مُّلَاقُوا اللهِ كَم مِّنْ فِئَةٍ قَلِيْلَةٍ غَلَبَتْ
a huge party by the permission of Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT) is with the patient ones” | 249 | فِئَةً كَثِيْرَةً بِإِذْنِ اللهِ وَاللهُ مَعَ الصَّابِرِيْنَ |
and when emerged to face Jalut and his troops they said (invoked), “Our Lord! pour | وَلَمَّا بَرَزُوا لِجَالُوْتَ وَجُنُوْدِهِ قَالُوا رَبَّنَآ أَفْرِغْ
on us patience and make our feet firm and help us against the disbelieving people” | 250 | عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى القَوْمِ الكَافِرِيْنَ |
So, they defeated them by the permission of Allah (SWT) and Dawood (AS) killed Jalut |
and Allah (SWT) gave him the kingdom and the wisdom, and He taught him from what He willed | وَءَاتَاهُ اللهُ المُلْكَ وَالحِكْمَةَ وَعَلَّمَهُ مِمَّا يَشَآءُ
and had Allah (SWT) not checked the people, some of them by others certainly, the earth would have been ruined | وَلَوْلَا دَفْعُ اللهِ النَّاسَ بَعْضَهُمْ بِبَعْضٍ لَفَسَدَتِ الأَرْضُ
but Allah (SWT) is the possessor of bounty to the worlds | 251 | وَلَاكِنَّ اللهَ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى العَالَمِيْنَ |
these are the verses of Allah (SWT), We recite them to you in truth and indeed, you are surely of the messengers | 252 | تِلْكَ ءَايَاتُ اللهِ نَتْلُوْهَا عَلَيْكَ بِالحَقِّ وَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ المُرْسَلِيْنَ |
Part 3 / Chapter 2 | Chapter 2 /
These messengers! We preferred some of them over others, among them who Allah (SWT) spoke |
and He raised some of them in degrees and We gave Isa (AS) son of Mariam (RA) the clear proofs | وَرَفَعَ بَعْضَهُمْ دَرَجَاتٍ وَءَاتَيْنَا عِيْسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ البَيِّنَاتِ
and We supported him with the holy spirit and had Allah (SWT) willed, not fought each other those who | وَأَيَّدْنَاهُ بِرُوْحِ القُدُسِ وَلَوْ شَآءَ اللهُ مَا اقْتَتَلَ الَّذِيْنَ
from after them from after what clear proofs came to them, but they differed | مِن بَعْدِهِم مِّنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ البَيِّنَاتُ وَلَاكِنِ اخْتَلَفُوا
so, from among them who believed and from among them who disbelieved and had Allah (SWT) willed | فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ ءَامَنَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ كَفَرَ وَلَوْ شَآءَ اللهُ
not they fought each other, but Allah (SWT) does what He wants | 253 | مَا اقْتَتَلُوا وَلَاكِنَّ اللهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يُرِيْدُ |
O you who believe! spend from what We provided you | يَآ أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا أَنْفِقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاكُم
from before that comes a day no bargaining in it and no friendship and no intercession | مِّنْ قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ يَوْمٌ لَّا بَيْعٌ فِيْهِ وَلَا خُلَّةٌ وَلَا شَفَاعَةٌ
and the disbelievers, they are the wrongdoers | 254 | وَالكَافِرُوْنَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُوْنَ |
Allah (SWT) no God except He, the Living, the Sustainer, not He takes slumber and not sleep |
belongs to Him whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth | لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ
who possesses what he can intercede with Him except by His permission?
He knows what between their hands and what is behind them | يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيْهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ
and not they encompass of anything of His knowledge except of what He wills | وَلَا يُحِيْطُوْنَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ
His throne extends to the heavens and the earth |
and not tires Him the protecting of both and He is Most-High, All-Mighty (Most-Great) | 255 | وَلَا يَئُوْدُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ العَلِيُّ العَظِيْمُ |
There is no compulsion in the religion |
surely, the right has become distinct from the wrong | قَدْ تَبَيَّنَ الرُّشْدُ مِنَ الغَيِّ
then whoever disbelieves in false deities and believes in Allah (SWT) | فَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِالطَّاغُوْتِ وَيُؤْمِن بِاللهِ
then surely, he grasped the most trustworthy handhold, no break in it | فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالعُرْوَةِ الوُثْقَى لَا انْفِصَامَ لَهَا
and Allah (SWT) is All-Hearing, All-Knowing | 256 | وَاللهُ سَمِيْعٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
Allah (SWT) is the protector of those who believe, He brings them out of the darkness to the light |
as for those who disbelieve, their protectors are the false deities, they bring them out from the light | وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا أَوْلِيَآؤُهُمُ الطَّاغُوْتُ يُخْرِجُوْنَهُمْ مِنَ النُّوْرِ
to the darkness, those are the companions of the fire, they will abide in it forever | 257 | إِلَى الظُّلُمَاتِ أُوْلَآئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيْهَا خَالِدُوْنَ |
Did not you see to those who argued with Ebrahim (AS) concerning his Lord that Allah (SWT) gave him | أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِي حَآجَّ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ فِى رَبِّهِ أَنْ ءَاتَيْنَاهُ اللهُ
the kingdom? when Ebrahim (AS) said, “My Lord is He who grants life and causes death” | المُلْكَ إِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيْمُ رَبِّيَ الَّذِى يُحْيِى وَيُمِيْتُ
he said, “I give life and I cause death” | قَالَ أَنَاْ أُحْيِى وَأُمِيْتُ
Ebrahim (AS) said, “then indeed, Allah (SWT) brings up the sun (comes) from the east | قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيْمُ فَإِنَّ اللهَ يَأْتِى بِالشَّمْسِ مِنَ المَشْرِقِ
so, you bring it from the west” | فَأْتِ بِهَا مِنَ المَغْرِبِ
so, the one who disbelieved became dumbfounded and Allah (SWT) guides not the wrong-doing people | 258 | فَبُهِتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ وَاللهُ لَا يَهْدِى القَوْمَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ |
or like the one who passed by a township, and it overturned on its roofs | أَوْ كَالَّذِي مَرَّ عَلَى قَرْيَةٍ وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَى عُرُوْشِهَا
he said, “how will Allah (SWT) give life to this after its death?” so, Allah (SWT) caused him to die | قَالَ أَنَّى يُحْيِى هَذِهِ اللهُ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا فَأَمَاتَهُ اللهُ
for a hundred years then He raised him, He said, “How long you remained?”
he said, ” I remained (dead) for a day or part of a day” | قَالَ لَبِثْتُ يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ
he said, “Nay! you remained for a hundred years | قَالَ بَل لَّبِثْتَ مِاْئَةَ عَامٍ
then look at your food and your drink, not a change through time | فَانْظُرْ إِلَى طَعَامِكَ وَشَرَابِكَ لَمْ يَتَسَنَّهْ
and look at your donkey and let Us (We) make you a sign for the people | وَانْظُرْ إِلَى حِمَارِكَ وَلِنَجْعَلَكَ ءَايَةً لِلنَّاسِ
and look to the bones how We raise them then We clothe them with flesh” | وَانْظُرْ إِلَى العِظَامِ كَيْفَ نُنْشِزُهَا ثُمَّ نَكْسُوْهَا لَحْمًا
then it became clear to him, and he said, “I know that Allah (SWT) is All-Powerful over everything” | 259 | فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ قَالَ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ اللهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ |
and when Ebrahim (AS) said, “My Lord! show me how you give life to the dead” | وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيْمُ رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِ المَوْتَى
He said, “Did not you believe?” he said, “Yes (off course) but to satisfy my heart” |
He said, “then take four of the birds and incline them towards you | قَالَ فَخُذْ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنَ الطَّيْرِ فَصُرْهُنَّ إِلَيْكَ
then make on each hill a portion of them | ثُمَّ اجْعَلْ عَلَى كُلِّ جَبَلٍ مِّنْهُنَّ جُزْءًا
then call them, they will come to you in haste and know that Allah (SWT) is All-Mighty, All-Wise | 260 | ثُمَّ ادْعُهُنَّ يَأْتِيْنَكَ سَعْيًا وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللهَ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ |
The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah (SWT) is | مَّثَلُ الَّذِيْنَ يُنْفِقُوْنَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ
like a grain which grows seven ears, in each ear is a hundred grain | كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنْبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِى كُلِّ سُنْبُلَةٍ مِّاْئَةُ حَبَّةٍ
and Allah (SWT) multiplies for who He wishes, and Allah (SWT) is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing | 261 | وَاللهُ يُضَاعِفُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَاللهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah (SWT) |
then not they follow what they spend with reminders of generosity, and not they cause harm, | ثُمَّ لَا يُتْبِعُوْنَ مَآ أَنْفَقُوا مَنًّا وَلَآ أَذًى
for them, their reward is with their Lord, and no fear on them and not they will grieve | 262 | لَّهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُوْنَ |
Kind words and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury (harm) |
and Allah (SWT) is All-Sufficient, All-Forbearing | 263 | وَاللهُ غَنِيٌّ حَلِيْمٌ |
O you who believe! do not nullify your charities with reminders and harm |
like the one who spends his wealth to be seen by the people and not they believe in Allah (SWT) | كَالَّذِي يُنْفِقُ مَالَهُ رِئَآءَ النَّاسِ وَلَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ
and the last day | وَاليَوْمِ الآخِرِ
then his example is like the example of a smooth rock with dust upon it | فَمَثَلُهُ كَمَثَلِ صَفْوَانٍ عَلَيْهِ تُرَابٌ
then struck it heavy rain then left it bare | فَأَصَابَهُ وَابِلٌ فَتَرَكَهُ صَلْدًا
not they have any control on anything of what they earned | لَا يَقْدِرُوْنَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ مِّمَّا كَسَبُوا
and Allah (SWT) guides not the disbelieving people | 264 | وَاللهُ لَا يَهْدِي القَوْمَ الكَافِرِيْنَ |
The example of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah (SWT) |
and certainty from their (inner) souls is like a garden on a height, heavy rain fell on it | وَتَثْبِيْتًا مِّنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ كَمَثَلِ جَنَّةٍ بِرَبْوَةٍ أَصَابَهَا وَابِلٌ
so, it yielded its harvest double then if not fell on it, heavy rain, then a drizzle | فَئَاتَتْ أُكُلَهَا ضِعْفَيْنِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يُصِبْهَا وَابِلٌ فَطَلٌّ
and indeed, Allah (SWT) is over what you do All-Seeing (Ever Watchful) | 265 | وَاللهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ |
Would anyone of you wish (love) to be for him a garden of date palms and grape vines |
flowing from underneath it, the rivers | تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ
for him in it from all fruits while old age strikes him | لَهُ فِيْهَا مِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ وَأَصَابَهُ الكِبَرُ
and he has weak children then a whirlwind strikes it, in it a fire, then it is burnt | وَلَهُ ذُرِّيَّةٌ ضُعَفَآءُ فَأَصَابَهَآ إِعْصَارٌ فِيْهِ نَارٌ فَأَحْتَرَقَتْ
like that Allah (SWT) makes clear for you His signs so that you may ponder (think) | 266 | كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللهُ لَكُمُ الآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَفَكَّرُوْنَ |
O you who believe! spend from the pure (good things) of what you earned |
and from what We brought forth for you from the earth | وَمِمَّآ أَخْرَجْنَا لَكُم مِّنَ الأَرْضِ
and do not aim at the bad of it, to spend, while not you would take it | وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الخَبِيْثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُوْنَ وَلَسْتُمْ بِئَاخِذِيْهِ
except with closed eyes over it and know that Allah (SWT) is Rich, Praiseworthy | 267 | إِلَّآ أَنْ تُغْمِضُوا فِيْهِ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللهَ غَنِيٌّ حَمِيْدٌ |
Satan promises you poverty and commands you to immorality |
while Allah (SWT) promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty and Allah (SWT) is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing | 268 | وَاللهُ يَعِدُكُم مَّغْفِرَةً مِّنْهُ وَفَضْلًا وَاللهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيْمٌ |
He gives the wisdom to whom He wishes and who He receives (granted) wisdom |
then indeed, he is granted abundant good but not they remember except people of understanding | 269 | فَقَدْ أُوْتِيَ خَيْرًا كَثِيْرًا وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّآ أُوْلُوا الأَلْبَابِ |
and whatever you spend from expenditure, or you vow of vows | وَمَآ أَنْفَقْتُم مِّن نَّفَقَةٍ أَوْ نَذَرْتُم مِّن نَّذْرٍ
then indeed, Allah (SWT) knows it and not for the wrongdoers from any helpers | 270 | فَإِنَّ اللهَ يَعْلَمُهُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِيْنَ مِنْ أَنْصَارٍ |
If you disclose the charities, then good that is and if you conceal it | إِنْ تُبْدُوا الصَّدَقَاتِ فَنِعِمَّا هِيَ وَإِنْ تُخْفُوْهَا
and give it to the poor then it is better for you, and He will remove from you from your evil deeds | وَتُؤْتُوْهَا الفُقَرَآءَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ وَيُكَفِّرُ عَنْكُم مِّنْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ
and Allah (SWT) over what you do is All-Aware | 271 | وَاللهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ خَبِيْرٌ |
Not upon you their guidance but Allah (SWT) guides whom He wills |
and whatever you spend from good then it is for yourself | وَمَا تُنْفِقُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَلِأَنْفُسِكُمْ
and not you spend except seeking the face of Allah (SWT) | وَمَا تُنْفِقُوْنَ إِلَّا ابْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ اللهِ
and whatever you spend of good will be repaid in full to you and you will not be wronged | 272 | وَمَا تُنْفِقُوْنَ مِنْ خَيْرٍ يُوَفَّ إِلَيْكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تُظْلَمُوْنَ |
For the poor who are held back in the way of Allah (SWT) |
not they are able to move about in the land | لَا يَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ ضَرْبًا فِي الأَرْضِ
the ignorant one thinks them to be self-sufficient from (their) restraint | يَحْسَبُهُمُ الجَاهِلُ أَغْنِيَآءَ مِنَ التَّعَفُّفِ
you recognize them by their mark, not they ask the people with importunity | تَعْرِفُهُم بِسِيْمَاهُمْ لَا يَسْأَلُوْنَ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا
and whatever you spend of good then Allah (SWT) is All-Knowing of it | 273 | وَمَا تُنْفِقُوا مِن خَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ اللهَ بِهِ عَلِيْمٌ |
Those who spend their wealth by night and day secretly and openly |
then for them, their reward is with their Lord | فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ
and no fear on them nor shall they grieve | 274 | وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُوْنَ |
those who consume usury, not they will stand except like stands the one who | الَّذِيْنَ يَأْكُلُوْنَ الرِّبَوا لَا يَقُوْمُوْنَ إِلَّا كَمَا يَقُوْمُ الَّذِي
Satan confounds him from the touch |
that is because they say, “only the trade is like usury” | ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّمَا البَيْعُ مِثْلُ الرِّبَوا
while Allah (SWT) has permitted trade and forbidden usury | وَأَحَلَّ اللهُ البَيْعَ وَحَرَّمَ الرِّبَوا
then who, the admonition comes to him from his Lord, and he refrained, then for him what passed | فَمَنْ جَآءَهُ مَوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ فَانْتَهَى فَلَهُ مَا سَلَفَ
and his case is with Allah (SWT) and who repeated then those are the companions of the fire | وَأَمْرُهُ إِلَى اللهِ وَمَنْ عَادَ فَأُوْلَآئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ
they will abide therein forever | 275 | هُمْ فِيْهَا خَالِدُوْنَ |
Allah (SWT) destroys usury and increases charities |
and Allah (SWT) loves not every sinful (ungrateful) disbeliever | 276 | وَاللهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ أَثِيْمٍ |
indeed, those who believed and did righteous deeds and established the prayer | إِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ
and gave the obligatory tax, for them, their reward is with their Lord | وَءَاتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ
and no fear on them nor shall they grieve | 277 | وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُوْنَ |
O you who believe! be conscious (mindful fear) of Allah (SWT) |
and give up what remains of usury if you are believers | 278 | وَذَرُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبَوا إِنْ كُنْتُم مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ |
and if not, you do then be informed of a war from Allah (SWT) and his messenger | فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوا فَأْذَنُوا بِحَرْبٍ مِّنَ اللهِ وَرَسُوْلِهِ
and if you repent then for you is the capital (head-principle) of your wealth | وَإِنْ تُبْتُمْ فَلَكُمْ رُءُوْسُ أَمْوَالِكُمْ
do not wrong and not you will be wronged | 279 | لَا تَظْلِمُوْنَ وَلَا تُظْلَمُوْنَ |
and if he be possessing difficulty (hardship) then respite (postponement) until ease | وَإِنْ كَانَ ذُو عُسْرَةٍ فَنَظِرَةٌ إِلَى مَيْسَرَةٍ
and if you remit as charity, it is better for you if you know | 280 | وَأَنْ تَصَدَّقُوا خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ |
and fear a day in it you will be returned to Allah (SWT) | وَاتَّقُوا يَوْمًا تُرْجَعُوْنَ فِيْهِ إِلَى اللهِ
then every soul will be repaid in full for what it earned, and they will not be wronged | 281 | ثُمَّ تُوَفَّى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُوْنَ |
O you who believe! when you contract with one another any debt for a fixed term |
then write it and let a writer (scribe) write between you in justice | فَاكْتُبُوْهُ وَلْيَكْتُب بَّيْنَكُمْ كَاتِبٌ بِالعَدْلِ
and the writer must not refuse to write as Allah (SWT) taught him so, let him write | وَلَا يَأْبَ كَاتِبٌ أَن يَكْتَبَ كَمَا عَلَّمَهُ اللهُ فَلْيَكْتُبْ
and let who incurs the liability dictate and he must fear Allah (SWT) his Lord | وَلْيُمْلِلِ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ الحَقُّ وَلْيَتَّقِ اللهَ رَبَّهُ
and diminish not from it anything but if who, on him is the debt, is | وَلَا يَبْخَسْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ كَانَ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ الحَقُّ
poor in understanding or weak or unable to dictate for himself | سَفِيْهًا أَوْ ضَعِيْفًا أَوْ لَا يَسْتَطِيْعُ أَنْ يُمِلَّ هُوَ
then let his guardian dictate in justice and witness with two witnesses, from your men | فَلْيُمْلِلْ وَلِيُّهُ بِالعَدْلِ وَاسْتَشْهِدُوا شَهِيْدَيْنِ مِن رِّجَالِكُمْ
and if there are not two men then a man and two women, from what you are pleased | فَإِن لَّمْ يَكُوْنَا رَجُلَيْنِ فَرَجُلٌ وَامْرَأَتَانِ مِمَّن تَرْضَوْنَ
from witnessing, if one of them errs then the other of the two can remind her | مِنَ الشُّهَدَآءِ أَنْ تَضِلَّ إِحْدَاهُمَا فَتُذَكِّرَ إِحْدَاهُمَا الأُخْرَى
and the witnesses should not refuse when they are called and don’t be weary to write it | وَلَا يَأْبَ الشُّهَدَآءُ إِذَا مَا دُعُوا وَلَا تَسْئَمُوا أَنْ تَكْتُبُوْهُ
whether it be small or big, for its fixed term | صَغِيْرًا أَوْ كَبِيْرًا إِلَى أَجَلِهِ
that is more just with Allah (SWT) and more solid as evidence and more convenient, to prevent doubt | ذَلِكُمْ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللهِ وَأَقْوَمُ لِلشَّهَادَةِ وَأَدْنَى أَلَّا تَرْتَابُوا
except when it is a present trade you carry out, on the spot, between you | إِلَّآ أَنْ تَكُوْنَ تِجَارَةً حَاضِرَةً تُدِيْرُوْنَهَا بَيْنَكُمْ
then no sin on you, if you don’t write it but take witnesses when you make a commercial contract | فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَلَّا تَكْتُبُوْهَا وَأَشْهِدُوا إِذَا تَبَايَعْتُمْ
and not the writer, nor the witness, must suffer any harm but if you do then truly, it will be wickedness in you | وَلَا يُضَآرَّ كَاتِبٌ وَلَا شَهِيْدٌ وَإِنْ تَفْعَلُوا فَإِنَّهُ فُسُوْقٌ بِكُمْ
and fear Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT) teaches you and Allah (SWT) is over everything, All-Knowing | 282 | وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ اللهُ وَاللهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيْمٌ |
and if you are on a journey and you cannot find a scribe then take a pledge | وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ وَلَمْ تَجِدُوا كَاتِبًا فَرِهَانٌ مَّقْبُوْضَةٌ
then if one of you entrust the other let the one who is entrusted discharge his trust | فَإِنْ أَمِنَ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضًا فَلْيُؤَدِّ الَّذِي اؤْتُمِنَ أَمَانَتَهُ
and let him fear Allah (SWT), his Lord and do not conceal the testimony and who conceals it | وَلْيَتَّقِي اللهَ رَبَّهُ وَلَا تَكْتُمُوا الشَّهَادَةَ وَمَن يَكْتُمْهَا
then indeed, he, his heart is sinful, and Allah (SWT) is All-Knowing over what you do | 283 | فَإِنَّهُ ءَاثِمٌ قَلْبُهُ وَاللهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ عَلِيْمٌ |
To Allah (SWT) belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth |
and if you reveal what is in yourself or conceal it, Allah (SWT) will call you to account for it | وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوْهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللهُ
and He forgives to whom He wishes, and He punishes whom He wishes | فَيَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِبُ مَن يَشَآءُ
and Allah (SWT) is over everything All-Powerful | 284 | وَاللهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ |
The messenger believes in what was revealed to him from his Lord and (so do) the believers |
all believe in Allah (SWT) and His angels and His books and His messengers | كُلٌّ ءَامَنَ بِاللهِ وَمَلَآئِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ
“we make no distinction between anyone from His messengers” and they say, | لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِ وَقَالُوا
“we hear and we obey (we seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord and to You is the return | 285 | سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ المَصِيْرُ |
Allah (SWT) does not burden a soul except its capacity |
for it what it earned and upon it what it earned | لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ
“Our Lord! seize us not if we forget or fall into error (miss the mark) | رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَآ إِن نَّسِيْنَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
our Lord! place not a load (burden) upon us | رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَآ إِصْرًا
like what You placed it on those from before us | كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا
our Lord! and place not upon us a burden greater than we have the strength to bear it | رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ
pardon us and forgive us and grant us mercy | وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْلَنَا وَارْحَمْنَآ
You are our Protector so help us over the disbelieving people” | 286 | أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى القَوْمِ الكَافِرِيْنَ |
