Chapter 74
Chapter 74 of the holy Quran with full Arabic text and English translation (Surah Al-Muddathir – سُوْرَةُ المُدَّثِّرِ – The one enveloped)
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Eternally Merciful
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَانِ الرَّحِيْمِ
| Part 29 / Chapter 74 | Chapter 74 / تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ المُلْكُ | |
| O you who covers himself! | 1 | يَآ أَيُّهَا المُدَّثِّرُ |
| stand up and warn | 2 | قُمْ فَأَنْذِرْ |
| and your Lord, magnify | 3 | وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ |
| and your garments, purify | 4 | وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ |
| and idols (uncleanliness) avoid | 5 | وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ |
| and do not favor desiring for increase | 6 | وَلَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ |
| and for your Lord, endure (be patient) | 7 | وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ |
| then when the trumpet is sounded | 8 | فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِيْ النَّاقُوْرِ |
| so that, that day is a difficult day | 9 | فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيْرٌ |
| on the disbelievers, without ease | 10 | عَلَى الكَافِرِيْنَ غَيْرُ يَسِيْرٍ |
| leave Me and who I created, alone | 11 | ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيْدًا |
| and I made for him (abundant) extensive wealth | 12 | وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَّمْدُوْدًا |
| and witnessing children | 13 | وَبَنِيْنَ شُهُوْدًا |
| and I spread for him, a spreading (ease) | 14 | وَمَهَّدْتُ لَهُ تَمْهِيْدًا |
| then he hopes that I increase | 15 | ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيْدَ |
| nay! truly he has been towards Our signs, stubborn | 16 | كَلَّآ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيْدًا |
| soon I will cover them a laborious ascending | 17 | سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُوْدًا |
| verily, he thought and plotted | 18 | إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ |
| so may he be killed (destroyed) seeing as how he plotted | 19 | فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ |
| then again, may he be killed (destroyed) seeing as how he plotted | 20 | ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ |
| then he looked | 21 | ثُمَّ نَظَرَ |
| then he frowned and scowled (looked in a bad-tempered way) | 22 | ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ |
| then he turned back and was arrogant | 23 | ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ |
| then he said, “this is not but magic narrated” | 24 | فَقَالَ إِنْ هَذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ |
| “This is not but the word of a human being” | 25 | إِنْ هَذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ البَشَرِ |
| soon I will burn him in hell | 26 | سَأُصْلِيْهِ سَقَرَ |
| and what will make you know what hell is? | 27 | وَمَآ أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ |
| not it lets remain and not does it leave | 28 | لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ |
| scorching the human | 29 | لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ |
| upon it nineteen | 30 | عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ |
| and not We made the companions of the fire, except angels | وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَآئِكَةً | |
| and not We made their number, except a trial for those who disbelieve | وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا | |
| so that those who were given the book may be convinced | لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِيْنَ أُوْتُوا الكِتَابَ | |
| and those who believe may increase in faith | وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِيْنَ ءَامَنُوا إِيْمَانًا | |
| and those who were given the book and the believers do not doubt | وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِيْنَ أُوْتُوا الكِتَابَ وَالمُؤْمِنُوْنَ | |
| and those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers may say: | وَلِيَقُوْلَ الَّذِيْنَ فِيْ قُلُوْبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَالكَافِرُوْنَ | |
| “What does Allah (SWT) intend by this example?” | مَاذَآ أَرَادَ اللهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلًا | |
| thus Allah (SWT) leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills | كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللهُ مَنْ يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَآءُ | |
| and he knows not the hosts of your Lord but He | وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُوْدَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ | |
| and this is not except a reminder to mankind | 31 | وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَى لِلْبَشَرِ |
| nay! by the moon | 32 | كَلَّا وَالقَمَرِ |
| by the night when it departs | 33 | وَالَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ |
| by the morning when it brightens | 34 | وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ |
| indeed, it is certainly one of the great | 35 | إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الكُبَرِ |
| a warning for the human | 36 | نَذِيْرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ |
| for whom among you wishes to proceed or stay behind | 37 | لِمَنْ شَآءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ |
| every soul is pledged to what it has earned | 38 | كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِيْنَةٌ |
| except the companions of the right | 39 | إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ اليَمِيْنِ |
| in gardens asking one another | 40 | فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُوْنَ |
| about the criminals | 41 | عَنِ المُجْرِمِيْنَ |
| “What led you into hell?” | 42 | مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ |
| they say: “not we were of the ones who pray” | 43 | قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ المُصَلِّيْنَ |
| “And not we were of the ones who fed the poor (needy)” | 44 | وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ المِسْكِيْنَ |
| “And we used to engage with the ones who engage in vain talk” | 45 | وَكُنَّا نَخُوْضُ مَعَ الخَآئِضِيْنَ |
| “And we used to deny the day of judgement” | 46 | وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ |
| “Until the certainty (inevitable) came to us” | 47 | حَتَّى أَتَانَا اليَقِيْنُ |
| so, no intercession of the ones who intercede will benefit them | 48 | فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِيْنَ |
| so, what is with them? that they turn away from the reminder | 49 | فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِيْنَ |
| as if they were averse (startled) donkeys | 50 | كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنْفِرَةٌ |
| fleeing from a lion | 51 | فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ |
| nay, every person among them desires he be given pages, spread out | 52 | بَلْ يُرِيْدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَى صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً |
| nay! but not they fear the hereafter | 53 | كَلَّا بَلْ لَّا يَخَافُوْنَ الآخِرَةَ |
| nay! indeed, it is a reminder | 54 | كَلَّآ إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ |
| for who wishes to remember (pay heed to) it | 55 | فَمَنْ شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُ |
| and not will they remember (pay heed to) it, except if Allah (SWT) wishes | وَمَا يَذْكُرُوْنَ إِلَّآ أَنْ يَشَآءَ اللهُ | |
| He is worthy to fear and worthy to forgive | 56 | هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ |
