جَهَنَّمَ
A word in the Arabic language will either be 1) a verb or 2) a noun or 3) a particle – جَهَنَّمَ is a noun
A noun may either be 1) Definite or indefinite 2) Masculine or feminine 3) Singular, dual or plural 4) Nominative, accusative or genitive
جَهَنَّمُ is the natural nominative state of this definite noun (مَرْفُوْعٌ) and it changes to جَهَنَّمَ its genitive (مَجْرُوْرٌ) state due to: 1) a preposition that precedes it or 2) a possessed noun that precedes it or 3) it’s a noun of dependent declension a) نَعْتٌ / صِفَطٌ adjectives b) التَّوْكِيْدُ emphatic c) المَعْطُوْفٌ conjunction d) البَدَلُ synonym
Gehenna, Hell, Place of punishment which is dark and waterless and which makes the faces of its inmates ugly and contracted
To meet with a frowning face, have a stern look, look with a severe, morose and contracted face

| 3-12 | say to those who disbelieve, “you will be defeated, and you will be gathered to Hell, an evil resting place” | قُل لِّلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا سَتُغْلَبُوْنَ وَتُحْشَرُوْنَ إِلَى جَهَنَّمَ وَبِئْسَ المِهَادُ |
| then among them who believe in him and among them who turn away from him | فَمِنْهُمْ مَّنْ ءَامَنَ بِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَّنْ صَدَّ عَنْهُ | |
| 4-55 | and sufficient is hell as a blazing fire | وَكَفَى بِجَهَنَّمَ سَعِيْرًا |
| and whoever opposes the messenger from after what became clear to him of the guidance | وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُوْلَ مِن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الهُدَى | |
| and he follows other than the way of the believers | وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيْلِ المُؤْمِنِيْنَ | |
| 4-115x | We will turn him to what he turned, and We will burn him in hell and evil it is as a destination | نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّى وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ وَسَآءَتْ مَصِيْرًا |
| and certainly, He sent down to you in the book that when you hear the verses of Allah (SWT) being denied by them | وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الكِتَابِ أَنْ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ ءَايَاتِ اللهِ يُكْفَرُ بِهَا | |
| and ridiculed by them then don’t sit with them until they engage in a conversation other than it | وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ بِهَا فَلَا تَقْعُدُوا مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوْضُوا فِي حَدِيْثٍ غَيْرِهِ | |
| Indeed, you then like them, certainly Allah (SWT) will gather the hypocrites | إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا مِّثْلُهُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ جَامِعُ المُنَافِقِيْنَ | |
| 4-140 | and the disbelievers in Hell altogether | وَالكَافِرِيْنَ فِي جَهَنَّمَ جَمِيْعًا |
| except a path to Hell, abiding in it forever | إِلَّا طَرِيْقَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِيْنَ فِيْهَآ أَبَدًا | |
| 4-169x | and that is for Allah (SWT) easy | وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللهِ يَسِيْرًا |
| He said, “Get out from it disgraced and expelled | قَالَ اخْرُجْ مِنْهَا مَذْءُوْمًا مَّدْحُوْرًا | |
| 7-18x | certainly, whoever follows you among them, I will surely fill hell with you all | لَّمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنْكُمْ أَجْمَعِيْنَ |
| 7-41 | For them from hell is a bed and from over them coverings thus We recompense the wrong doers | لَهُمْ مِّنْ جَهَنَّمَ مِهَادٌ وَمِنْ فَوْقِهِمْ غَوَاشٍ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الظَّالِمِيْنَ |
| and certainly, We created for hell many from the Jinn and men | وَلَقَدْ ذَرَأْنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيْرًا مِّنَ الجِنِّ وَالإِنْسِ | |
| for them are hearts but not they understand with them and for them are eyes but not they see with them | لَهُمْ قُلُوْبٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُوْنَ بِهَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ لَّا يُبْصِرُوْنَ بِهَا | |
| and for them are ears but not they hear with them, those are like cattle | وَلَهُمْ ءَاذَانٌ لَّا يَسْمَعُوْنَ بِهَآ أُوْلَآئِكَ كَالأَنْعَامِ | |
| 7-179 | nay! they are more astray, those, they are the heedless ones | بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ أُوْلَآئِكَ هُمُ الغَافِلُوْنَ |
| Surely, those who disbelieve, they spend their wealth to hinder from the path of Allah (SWT) | إِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا يُنْفِقُوْنَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ لِيَصُدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ | |
| so, they will spend it then it will be for them a regret then they will be overcome | فَسَيُنْفِقُوْنَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُوْنُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسْرَةً ثُمَّ يُغْلَبُوْنَ | |
| 8-36 | and those who disbelieve, to Hell they will be gathered | وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا إِلَى جَهَنَّمَ يُحْشَرُوْنَ |
| that Allah (SWT) may distinguish (separate) the bad (wicked) from the good so, He may make the wicked | لِيَمِيْزَ اللهُ الخَبِيْثَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبِ وَيَجْعَلَ الخَبِيْثَ | |
| some of them over others so He heaps them all and make them in hell | بَعْضَهُ عَلَى بَعْضٍ فَيَرْكُمَهُ جَمِيْعًا فَيَجْعَلَهُ فِيْ جَهَنَّمَ | |
| 8-37 | those, they are the losers | أُوْلَآئِكَ هُمُ الخَاسِرُوْنَ |
| On the day it will be heated in the fire of hell and will be branded with it | يَوْمَ يُحْمَى عَلَيْهَا فِيْ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُقْوَى بِهَا | |
| their foreheads and their flanks and their backs | جِبَاهُهُمْ وَجُنُوْبُهُمْ وَظُهُوْرُهُمْ | |
| 9-35 | “This is what you hoarded for yourselves so taste what you used to hoard” | هَذَا مَا كَنَزْتُمْ لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ فَذًُوْقُوا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْنِزُوْنَ |
| and among them who say, “Permit for me and do not put me to trial” surely, in the trial they have fallen | وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ يَقُوْلُ ائْذَن لِّي وَلَا تَفْتِنِّي أَلَا فِي الفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا | |
| 9-49x | and truly, hell will surely surround the disbelievers | وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيْطَةٌ بِالكَافِرِيْنَ |
| Do they not know that he who opposes Allah (SWT) and His messenger | أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ مَن يُحَادِدِ اللهَ وَرَسُوْلَهُ | |
| 9-63 | then that, for him is the fire of hell, abiding therein forever? that is a great disgrace | فَأَنَّ لَهُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدًا فِيْهَا ذَلِكَ الخِزْيُ العَظِيْمُ |
| Allah (SWT) promised the hypocrite men and women and the disbelievers the fire of hell abiding forever in it | وَعَدَ اللهُ المُنَافِقِيْنَ وَالمُنَافِقَاتِ وَالكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِيْنَ فِيْهَا | |
| 9-68 | it is sufficient for them, and Allah (SWT) cursed them and for them is an enduring punishment | هِيَ حَسْبُهُمْ وَلَعَنَهُمُ اللهُ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّقِيْمٌ |
| Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allah (SWT) | فَرِحَ المُخَلَّفُوْنَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلَافَ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ | |
| and they disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the way of Allah (SWT) | وَكَرِهُوا أَنْ يُجَاهِدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيْلِ اللهِ | |
| and they said, “Do not go forth in the heat” say, “the fire of hell is a more intense heat” | وَقَالُوا لَا تَنْفِرُوا فِي الحَرِّ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرًّا | |
| 9-81 | if only they could understand | لَّوْ كَانُوا يَفْقَهُوْنَ |
| then is one who founded his building on fear of Allah (SWT) and His pleasure better? | أَفَمَنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَهُ عَلَى تَقْوَى مِنَ اللهِ وَرِضْوَانٍ خَيْرٌ | |
| or who founded his building on the edge of a cliff about to collapse so, it collapsed with him (in it) | أَم مَّنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَهُ عَلَى شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٍ فَانْهَارَ بِهِ | |
| 9-109 | in the fire of hell and Allah (SWT) does not guide the wrongdoing people | فِيْ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ وَاللهُ لَا يَهْدِي القَوْمَ الظَّالِمِيْنَ |
| except whom your Lord bestowed mercy and for that He created them, and the word of your Lord was fulfilled | إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ رَبُّكَ وَلِذَلِكَ خَلَقَهُم وَتَمَّت كَلِمَةُ رَبِّكَ | |
| 11-119x | “Surely, I shall fill hell with jinn and men all together” | لَأَملَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجمَعِينَ |

| Truly those who persecute the believing men and women then they do not repent | إِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ فَتَنُوا المُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا | |
| 85-10 | for them is punishment in hell and for them is the punishment of the burning fire | فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الحَرِيْقِ |
| and that day hell will be brought near | وَجِاْئَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ | |
| 89-23 | on that day man will remember, but how will that remembrance avail him? | يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّى لَهُ الذِّكْرَى |
| Truly those who disbelieve from the people of the book and the polytheists will be in the fire of hell | إِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِيْنَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ | |
| 98-6 | abiding therein forever, those are the worst of creatures | خَالِدِيْنَ فِيهَآ أُوْلَآئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ البَرِيَّةِ |
