أُمُّ

A word in the Arabic language will either be 1) a verb or 2) a noun or 3) a particle – أُمُّ is a noun

A noun may either be 1) Definite or indefinite 2) Masculine or feminine 3) Singular, dual or plural 4) Nominative, accusative or genitive

الْأُمُّ is the natural state of this definite noun and it is in this state ( مَرْفُوْعٌ) when the noun is: 1) the subject المُبْتَدَأُ or 2) the predicate الخَبَرُ or 3) اسْمُ كَانَ or 4) خَبَرُ إِنَّ or 5) الفَاعِلُ subject of a verb in the active voice or 6) نَائِبُ الفَاعِلِ subject of a verb in the passive voice or 7) it’s a noun of dependent declension a) نَعْتٌ / صِفَطٌ adjectives b) التَّوْكِيْدُ emphatic c) المَعْطُوْفٌ conjunction d) البَدَلُ synonym

الْأُمُّ loses it’s definite article, changing to أُمُّ due to it being a possessed noun

He is who revealed to you the book, in it are verses, entirely clearهُوَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الكِتَابَ مِنْهُ ءَايَاتٌ مُّحْكَمَاتٌ
they are the foundations of the book and others not entirely clearهُنَّ أُمُّ الكِتَابِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ
so as for those in their hearts is deviation, they follow what is unclear of itفَأَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ فِي قُلُوْبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُوْنَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ
seeking misguidance and seeking its hidden meanings and not any know its hidden meanings except Allah (SWT)ابْتِغَآءَ الفِتْنَةِ وَبْتِغَآءَ تَأْوِيْلِهِ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ تَأْوِيْلَهُ إِلَّا اللهُ
and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say, “we believe in it all is from with our Lord”وَالرَّاسِخُوْنَ فِي العِلْمِ يَقُوْلُوْنَ ءَامَنَّا بِهِ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّنَا
3-7and not they will remember (receive admonition) except men of understandingوَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّآ أُوْلُوا الأَلْبَابِ
Not was the Messiah, son of Maryam but a Messengerمَّا المَسِيْحُ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلَّا رَسُوْلٌ
certainly, Messengers had passed from before himقَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ
and his mother was truthfulوَأُمُّهُ صِدِّيْقَةٌ
They both used to eat foodكَانَا يَأْكُلَانِ الطَّعَامَ
Look how We make clear to them the signsانْظُرْ كَيْفَ نُبَيِّنُ لَهُمُ الآيَاتِ
5-75yet look how they are deludedثُمَّ انْظُرْ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُوْنَ
