بَلْ
A word in the Arabic language will either be 1) a verb or 2) a noun or 3) a particle – بَلْ is a particle
بَلْ is a particle of digression signifying the correction or cancellation of what precedes as in 21:26 and transitions from one object of discourse to another as in 87:16.
But, On the contrary, Besides; Much more; No; May; Rather
It is also used for confirmation, then it must be followed by a clause in the affirmative, no matter if the question which it follows is the negative or affirmative

| 2-88 | so little is that which they believe | فَقَلِيْلًا مَّا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ |
| Is it not that every time they made a promise | أَوَكُلَّمَا عَاهَدُوْا عَهْدًا | |
| a group of them threw it aside | نَّبَذَهُ فَرِيْقٌ مِّنْهُمْ | |
| 2-100 | nay most of them do not believe | بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ |
| And they say “Allah (SWT) has begotten a son.” Glory be to Him! | وَقَالُوْا اتَّخَذَ اللهُ وَلَدًا سُبْحَانَهُ | |
| nay to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth | بَل لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ | |
| 2-116 | and all surrender to Him in obedience | كُلٌّ لَّهُ قَانِتُوْنَ |
| And they say: “Be Jews or Christians then you will be guided” | وَقَالُوْا كُوْنُوْا هُوْدًا أَوْ نَصَارَى تَهْتَدُوْا | |
| Say “nay the religion of Ebrahim (AS) is upright | قُلْ بَل مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ حَنِيْفًا | |

| 75-14 | nay man will be a witness against himself | بَلِ الإِنْسَانُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ بَصِيْرَةٌ |
| 75-20 | nay! but you love hastening (this world) | كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّوْنَ العَاجِلَةَ |
| 82-9 | Nay! but you deny the judgement | كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ بِالدِّيْنِ |
| 83-14 | Nay! but what they were earning has covered (stained) over their hearts | كَلَّا بَلْ رَانَ عَلَى قُلُوْبِهِمْ مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُوْنَ |
| 84-22 | yes indeed, those who disbelieved are deniers (of the truth) | بَلِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُوْنَ |
| 85-19 | Nay, those who disbelieve are in denial | بَلِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيْبٍ |
| 87-16 | Nay, you prefer the life of this world | بَلْ تُؤْثِرُوْنَ الحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا |
| 89-17 | Nay! but you do not honor the orphans (treat with generosity) | كَلَّا بَلْ لَّا تُكْرِمُوْنَ اليَنِيْمَ |
